i am 100% certain my waters broke last night and hospital says they havent

i am still certsin that my waters broke at midnight last night. I was coughing because i have the flu and i got out of bed to go to the toilet. while i was standing up i coughed once and i thought i had wet myself (had no pad on) then though i had three big gushes of uncontrollable fliud which looked clear and did'nt smell of urine.

there was about a litre of fluid in total and to clean it up i soak thru two towels and mopped. I couldnt have possibly passed this much urine if i tried. There has been no leakage since and hospital sent me home saying your waters havent broken.

this is my fifth baby and my waters have broke once before in a gush too.

i am 37 weeks pregnant, whats going on? its now nine hrs since it happens and there are no other signs or contractions

Oh how frustrating! Did they take a swab or a sample from a pad to test, or did they just 'decide' that it wasn't your waters? Certainly sounds like it to me! My waters broke early because of a really bad cough as well and contractions started about 12 hrs later but as I'm sure you know, your waters can break and you can still not go into labour for days. Hopefully things start for you very soon. All the best!

I had something similar to this happen the other day while i was in hospital with dehydration.. They did an internal with a swab that needs to be left in there for 1 min. and It came back negative. The doc said could be urine as you cant feel later in pregnancy for some women if its urine or not. Or there are ment to be a few different parts where Amniotic fluid is, and sometimes can rupture the hind waters etc.

Good luck.. but did they test you to see by doing an internal with a swab??

When I was 39 wks I had a pop and a gush, enough to soak my nickers and the pants I was wearing, was definitely not urine, went into hospital, they did the tests and it all came back negative...was sent home and went into labour that night.
I still think it was my water that broke, they tried to tell me it was mucus (ewwww and no way there could be THAT much!) I know I kept leaking a little for the next few days too.
Good luck, hope it all goes well!!

It could be a hindwater leak that will seal up and you may not labour for a little while. The swab may have been negative as you are no longer leaking. Did they palpate to check your fluid levels or give you a scan?

As they have sent you home my advice would be to keep an eye on your temperature and if you start to see it rise, or feel ill, then go back to the hospital and let them know that you are convinced it was your waters. Hopefully you will continue to feel well and labour when you and your bub are ready.

Our bodies certainly get interesting towards the end of pregnancy. As others have said, just keep an eye on yourself. If your fluid levels are good, it's possible that your urine might not actually smell too much anyway...who knows. Take care in these last weeks (or days). xo

Sounds to me like it was a hind water leak and it's resealed itself, hence no more leaking.

It's so frustrating isn't it? When there's no definate answers and because all our labours can start differently sometimes it's hard to tell if this is it or not. My first was a gush, the second a slow trickle and third didn't break until after his head was out! *hugs* i really feel for you.
