Question Just wanting to know if anyone else has long cycles and still ovulates?

    Hi Everyone,

I have PCOS and havent had normal cycles for a LONG time. I used to bleed all the time until i was put on metformin and the pill. Anyways, since going off the pill and staying on the met the last 2 cycles i have gotten normally and that excites me to have normal periods come on without the pill and that fact that they stop is even better

So, my question is does anyone have longer cycles and still ovualte? My cycles have been 38 days and im just wondering if others have them simular or the same length? I seem to bleed for 7 to day 8 not the usual 4 to 6 on the pill.

    Thanks

i have 35 day cycles and i ovulate on day 20 usually. i bleed for about 4 or 5, but once again, some people just have longer bleeds, especially with PCOS. there is nothing strange about longer cycles, everyone is different. if you dont temp then maybe you could start temping and you will get a good idea of if / when you are ovulating =)

    Hi Kezzy,

Thanks for your reply. Its nice to know others have longer cycles too. Its just strange for me to be having normal cycles coming on and stopping by themselves, normally i need the pill to start and stop them i used to bleed all the time, but i have gone off all meds other than metformin and im excited cause FINALLY im getting normal cycles. Im wondering if im ovualting or not, its hard to tell cause havent had normal cycles on my own b4. Even know i have been trying for so long and had assistited pregnancys, this is all knew to me, so im a bit up in the air with everything lol.
How do you temp?, i havent had to do that b4.

    Thanks again

sorry HmCm, have been away for the last week..

temping is taking your BBT every morning. you can buy a BBT themometer at your chemist, it will be digital and measure your temp as accurately as 36.48 e.g. you take it at the same time every morning before getting out of bed. search the web, you will find plenty of information. from this you will be able to see if you are ovulating.. if you are you will see a temp spike after O'ing. for example. you're temps will rise from 36.48 - 36.87. if you do not see a temp rise anytime in your cycle then you are probably not ovulating. like i said thou, search the web. fertility friend is also a very useful site for temping.

    best of luck =)

I have PCOS and have 36day cycles ovulating around day 26. We conceived #2 by temping #1 just happened right time after being told we would have problems conceiving and would need help. I also take metformin, but haven't taken the pill in 6 years makes me an angry lady lol.

I could never keep up with my cycles, they were so irregular. I would go easily 3-5 months at a time without getting one and then i would have maybe 2 in a row and then again months before my next. They then started to get very light and lasting alot longer, i had one for 21 days. That was the last one before the one i had in October, that one was a normal one. That was i think the first after being on the pill and metformin for about 3 months. It lasted my usual 5 days. I didn't expect to ovulate at all that month so when we DTD 10 days after and we didn't pull out as we usually do... i fell pregnant.

It was such a huge surprise. So i don't think having longer cycles has any affect..

    Goodluck

Thanks Kezzy, i have been charting and its telling me i did ovuated on day 18, so i'll be interested to see what happens.

Hansie, congrats on number 2 and thanks.

1stTimemumma, Thanks and congrats to you too.

Has anyone done temping and the chart showed you ovulated, but bt's or scans have shown you havent? Am just wondering if thats the case with any charts cause it is showing i have ovulated on cycle day 18... OR has it ever shown you have ovualted and then changed the ovulation dates further into your cycle??? Sorry i just have no idea as its the 1st time.
