High Blood Pressure - 2nd Tri

I'm 17 weeks, and have started to have high blood pressure again. When I get out of bed, I take my bp straight away and it's been about 150/99. Isn't it too early for me to have high bp, if I were to get pre eclampsia again? I thought you only needed to watch out after about 20 weeks.

In my first pg my BP started to rise from 26wks, in my second pg my BP was raised from 23wks, in my third pg it started to rise from 13wks.

All times I was put onto BP medication & monitored closely in regards to my BP levels, in my first pg I never developed pre-eclampsia or any other signs of it (although I did deliver at 32wks due to PROM at 31wks. Unfortunately my last 2 pg's resulted in 2nd tri losses (but not BP related in any way).

Sorry I can't be of any more help but if you are at all concerned then maybe speak to your Dr/ OB or midwife to get some reassurance.

With my first, I was hospitalised at 29w+6d, with BP of about 205/200.. They said I would have had high BP from about 22w.

With Ned, I went onto Labetelol (BP medication) from 16 weeks, because BP was 150/95...

So I'd say yep, it's possible to have high BP at 17w. But do check throughout the day, as BP goes up and down depending on what you're doing. I don't know whether it's best to take it first thing, only if you're lying down and hadn't got up yet.

I'd definitely be speaking to your ob about it, maybe they can put you on meds, including low dose aspirin and beta-blockers such as Labetelol, these will help.

    Good luck.

I went to the doctor today, but she was a bit dismissive saying my bp was probably high because I was so busy with the baby etc!

    Yeah, ok.....

I'm also starting to get swollen around the face, just like last time.

How is your swelling going Welshgirl?

If you think you are swelling up like last time I would be inclined to push it a bit more at your next appt (or if at all possible maybe go to a chemist & ask if they are able to check your BP for you ~ if there is one that will do it for you of course, I know at our local chemists if you ask them they will usually do it for you)

Eeks Gwen. I so hope it's not the PE coming back earlier this time. I agree with Kirsty, make sure you get it checked out properly if you are starting to swell.

Good luck hun & keep us posted

Gwen, hoping all is going okay.

Check with your specialist about beta-blockers and blood thinners.

    Best wishes.

    Hi

My bp was really high, so I was admitted to hospital 3 days ago. I've started medication for the bp, and I had a blood transfusion because I was so anaemic (I hadn't realised at all).

Anyway, home for now. The consultant said it wasn't pre eclampsia, but it could develop into it as the weeks progress.

Thanks for all the good wishes x

I've got 'pitting odema' again in my feet, and protein in urine again! Is pitting odema ever normal in pregnancy, because I know most women get swollen ankles??

PE seems so hard to diagnose!!
