Just a little bit of back ground. I'm a swimming teacher and have been teaching at the same place for 3.5 years.
When my DS was 6 months old I put him into baby lessons at my work in a class after I had finished teaching as I had to be in the water with him obviously My boss charged me for his lessons but gave me a $30 discount for the term.I thought oh well so be it I guess but deep down I was a bit peeved about having to pay when I could teach him the same thing. Fast forward to today..I sent my boss a message asking if I could put DS into one of my classes once a week to teach him to swim. She sent a message back 3 hours later and said I could put him in but I'd have to pay for him but she'd give me a $3 per lesson discount.
I guess my question is am I being unreasonable in thinking that I shouldn't have to pay to put my son into one of my classes or maybe should be given a bit more of a discount than a measly $3?
Please be honest with me and tell me what you all think.
Is it possible that you need to pay (regardless of the discount amount) to have your son registered to ensure he is covered by the centre's insurance policy?
Short answer, yes, I think you are being unreasonable.
They are running a business, and have offered you a staff discount (which is more than many people get through their workplace) and as you said, you could teach him the same things yourself. You child being in that class means someone else's can't be, and as such, you have to pay for that placement.
