OMG My 5 week old is cutting teeth

Bub has been unsettled the last 3 days. At first I thought it might have been something I ate until I looked in his mouth while he was crying and I see his two bottom teeth starting to cut through - he's only five weeks! I thought my daughter had teethed early when she had those two teeth at four months! This can't be normal and I doubt there's anything I can give him to give him any relief as he can't even hole anything to chew on it.

Eek poor thing...but maybe you'll get lucky and all the pain will be over fast and early.

My Mum made friends with a lady in hospital when I was born who apparently had a baby born with a good mouth of teeth!

I have heard of such early teething but never experienced it myself.

Rub on the gums with a cold flannel maybe?

I think after 4 weeks you can give panadol if you really want to.

Are you sure he's actually cutting? It's not unheard of but it's not common at 5 weeks. You can sometimes see them sitting below the gums but they aren't cutting.

The first 'wonder week' (developmental leap) is around 5 weeks so that could be the cause for him being unsettled, not to mention they tend to 'wake up' then.

If he really is teething, Childrens Pandadol and Childrens Nurofen is fine from one month onwards. I've always found Nurofen to be better than panadol. You can probably use Bonjela teething gel too. Hylands Teething Tablets are awesome too - they disolve on contact with saliva

No, he's definitely cutting, I can see white coming through, not just the slits and he keeps playing with the area with his tongue and it's not the same movement as the rooting reflex. I'm not a big fan of using medical forms of pain relief unless I absolutely have to, I've been very conscious of trying to keep his good gut bacteria high due to our intolerance to yeast and those sorts of things could cause an imbalance by killing it off. At the moment he's quite happy to nibble on my nipple for relief (wont take a dummy) to bring him relief - although I find this a little exhausting. I really need some natural ways to help him, other than a cold flannel and teething chew toys I can't think of anything else. I've not heard of Hylands Teething Tablets - I'll have to see what they have in them to see if they would be suitable. Thanks.

I was born with teeth so it's def not a stretch for a 5 week old to be cutting teeth.

Can you hold a cold face washer in his mouth for him to gum, your finger?

Both my girls hated anything related to teething relief, they wouldn't use teething rings or cols cloths etc.. damn kids but i did find brauers worked well but i'm not sure how old kids need to be for that.

My eldest daughter has two teeth by the time she was 4 weeks and a complete full set by 10mths, and her two yr molars came though at 14mths...
We were told is very uncommon but does happen...

Cold flannels or slightly froozen ones help. as did sm33

I will add she did then go on to lose her teeth sooner then most, she is now 6 and has lost 8 teeth already her 1st being lost at 4.
