I am way more relaxed about what I am eating this time around (though the average person would probably still view me as neurotic!). I just have two questions that I never seemed to get definitive answers for the first time around:
If I made up some home-made noodle salad (consisting of miracle whip, onion, cheese and peas) and popped it in the refrigerator right away, could I eat it for the following two days? Or would you still err on the 24 hour rule?
Cheesecake! Once baked and refrigerated, how long would you keep it for before throwing it out?
24hr rule? I'd keep eating it till it's gone - within a few days usually unless you know there is something in there that does need to be eaten quickly. Same for the cheesecake, I'd just keep eating it for a few days.
I think 3 days for the salad and cheesecake would be fine if your fridge is pretty cold. The only things I don't like as leftovers are cut tomatoes, lettuce, or meat if you microwave to reheat. But all of that stuff in the salad sounds like it wouldn't spoil easily. Look at each ingredient and think how long you'd let it sit by itself in the fridge and then throw it out when the ingredient that goes bad the fastest would be past date. And things like vinegar and sugar are actually natural preservatives so the cheesecake should be totally fine for longer since it's got so much sugar in it.
I'd stick with the 24 hour rule for noodle salad, because it's got fresh stuff in it, and can't be heated to blazes. But I hate that stuff when I'm not pg.
Cheesecake, I'd go for about 3 days-ish? Depending what's in there (when I make it there's no egg) and the sugar thing is on your side.
