Quick! Help me read this properly!!!

Making bread the instructions are -

add 425 ml water, 3 tablespoons vegetable oil *OR 450ml milk instead of water.

So if I use milk I don't need to use the oil? That's how I'm reading it but was unsure for a sec.

    Whaddaya think?

I would still be adding the oil, cos if it was to replace both, wouldn't it say oil as well?

I'd say it's either milk or water + oil

I agree I would think it would say 450mL instead of water AND oil if it was replacing both. Seems weird though eh?

i read it as the milk only replaces the water and you still add the oil whether you're using milk or water

Yeah - then it goes on to say how important the correct amount of liquid is, so I thought more milk than water would take care of the oil component...

Old fashioned way in the oven, and it's gluten-free and dairy free so it's a bit different. I'm going with full milk. I did it with oil/water last time, so we shall see how it turns out.

It's rising nicely as we speak - thank you everyone, will let you know if we got it right!

The milk cooks differently to the water, hence the change in volume despite their mentioning how the volume is vital - cooking chemistry

Oil and Water or Oil and Milk.

    Hmmm..
I thought it meant either water and oil or Just the milk. Maybe the milk can be on its own because the cream in the milk does what the oil would have done- whereas the water needs the oil IYGWIM
