but now things are getting settled i want to start using cloth, so i started today, DS's nappy rash is not going no matter what i use, so at the moment he is having no nappy time (this is a first as we have been so busy since coming home, out and about which i hate!)

so when i went to use his first nappy i realised that i dont have any liners, please tell me what else i need (so i can do a quick shop and get things going)

Nuts -soap nuts, when you are washing them. I've never used them though.

Liners - I hardly ever remember to use liners. I use microfleece liners if they are needing sudocream or something for rash, or I use flushable liners when I remember to (ie hardly ever)... LOL

Grab a box of EcoStore from the supermarket.

Liners, meh, again , rarely used them. I f you do want to use them, grab a metre of microfleece from spotlight and cut it up to fit your nappies, no need to hem it. Wash them with the nappies. When they look old of whatever, bin them.

It really is simple to use cloth - because you don't need all the paraphernalia

When DH gets home im going to run out to spotlight, get some fleece to use as liners and some to use as wipes as the cotton wool is not doing it for me! lol

All of the above, I also find that buying a pack of 10 face washers, just cotton ones from Spotlight or the supi are great for wipes. They are big and perfect for a poo explosion. I also keep a pump bottle of water at the change table to wet the face washers with. Perfect.
I have never used liners in my nappies either and have used Moo Goo for rash and if it has been really bad, one day with Sudocream and sposie has fixed it. Good luck!

I use facewashers for wipes as well. I do have some proper wipes but never paid for them - they were just free gifts when I purchased big! LOL

As for Rockin' Green - I got a sample from a friend down here that sells it, and it was ok, but I don't have any trouble with my normal washing liquid either.

also i only have 5 nappies, im looking at getting some more but dont know where to start looking, i got mine from the baby show, i think i like AIO's

ive tried the moogoo for his rash. and sudocream but its not working. it like a couple of blisters, i was thinking of thrush as it looked a little like this at the hospital

I never bothered with liners either. Wipes I bought some that were on special when I was buying other things. Pump bottle, I recycled a used up hand wash one.
I use a washing powder made by planet ark... can't remember the name of it now

As for nappies, I preferred the BBH fitteds for Tristan when he was little. He's in AIO's now though. I bought all mine online.

Loula, I remember using Gaviscon or Mylanta (you know, antacid for heartburn) on one of the boys really serious nappy rashes. And it went away. Makes sense really, if the nappy rash is caused by acidity. If you have some around the house it could be worth a shot.

If you think it's fungal though, you'll have to grab something like...is it called Daktozin? I think I've used Betadine on fungal rashes?

As you can tell, I am somewhat experimental and problem solvey with rashes. Whatever works and works quickly I reckon. Those fighting kicking nappy changes get old very quickly.

i did think of heartburn TBH, as it kinda looks like that (i dont know what i mean really so understand if you dont lol)

ive got some cream left over from when he had thrush in the hospital so am starting to use that.

Maybe i should look at my diet again, mmmmmmmmmmm...........

We seriously use only the basics here. Always have done. After reading one of Limeslice's posts I started putting a couple of drops of either teatree or lavender in DS bath and his seriously heavy duty nappy rash has been banished since.

I only use tapwater on washers/cloth wipes. Never use a liner unless there's a barrier type cream on there. Then I use cut up fleece like the other girls have said

I use regular washing powder or bicarb on my nappies.

ETA what sort of nappies are you using Loula?

For terry flats napisan is OK but not necessary and I've olny ever used cold water. No soaking required dry pail only.

For MCNs cold water , dry pail, NO Napisan near them or they get ruined.

Yep, straight on. I do remember with #1, I gave him a wicked nappy rash from drinking a few glasses of orange juice in one day. Too much acidity I guess. So I guess just make sure you have your balance right there, you might not have to cut out completely, but it's worth seeing if it's a combination of say, a tomato based meal with a glass of OJ and um...other acidic things.

ETA: And I should add, the OJ related nappy rash happened when he was quite young, maybe a week old. I think perhaps the older they get, the more resilient their little guts get.

Nooooo!!! Get that Napisan AWAY from your stash!! lol

No need to soak in any chemicals at all. I do a hot wash every now and then, but cold water wash is all you need.
Hang them in the sun and it will naturally bleach out any stains or discolouration.
If you must soak, then soak them in your washer using your normal washing deergent, or bicard.

As for the rash, find some Tinderbox Calendula Ointment. Works wonders. If it is fungal, try making up a lavender oil solution. Put 5 drops of pure lavender oil in 100ml of water and mix, then take 5 drops of that mix and add it to another 100ml of water. Use this water to change his nappies with and see how the rash holds up. As much nappy free time as possible, change more often and use a liner that will wick the moisture away from his tush.

But NO NAPISAN! lol

NUP! Just put the nappies in a bucket (no water, no napisan). Then when you have enough (at least every second day) put the nappies in machine with 1/4 amount of washing powder you usually use and do wash. Dry.

*Some people do rinse wash first (i don't)
*You can do a warm wash (i do, it helps with newborn poos)
*Sunlight will bleach out stains.

** I'm not sure what happens when bub starts solids. Let you know if it changes soon.
