Capsule or straight to car seat?

Just wondering whether you bothered hiring a capsule for the first few months or whether your bub went straight into their car seat?

With DS we hired the capsule, which was good as he could stay asleep in it when we got home from an outing etc, however I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it or not? They just seem so little to be going straight into a seat...

All pros and cons would be appreciated

We never had a capsule, just straight into the car seat. We only had a little car then so it would have been a PITA trying to get the capsule in and out anyway. She was fine in the car seat with the newborn insert in it.

We borrowed a friends capsule for DS1, he was only 2kg (roughly 4lb6oz) when we bought him home from hospital, and even in the capsule we had to use folded up wraps so he would fit properly.
With DS2 we didn't bother with the capsule and put him straight in the car seat, he was 3kg exactly when he was discharged and fitted the car seat so well. I also found it easier than a capsule too, the capsule was so hard to get out of the car I never bothered taking it out and even on the few times I did the capsule was very heavy and awkward.

I may have hired a capsule if there was somewhere locally that hired them out, but I wasn't prepared to travel to Perth just to hire a capsule.

I've done it both ways. DD1 went straight to a car seat and it was perfectly fine. DD2 I hired a capsule so I could put her down to put DD1 in the car. Otherwise I think DD1 would be running off down the driveway as I tried to get her sister in the car.

DS went straight into a car seat when we bought him home from the Hospital as i had a c section. we knew from 20 weeks that i would be having a c section so we thought that it would be much easier for me to get him in and out of the car in a car seat rather then try and lift a capsule in/out of the car and carry it around. it worked out much easier too. no fiddling around after a few months with trying to put the car seat in as it was already there. The girls went into a carseat, ds has gone into a capsule and I wish I had it with dd2. As pp said it's great when getting two toddlers in and out of the car safely. I barely use the pram, we just put the capsule in the trolley.

We bought a capsule as our car was tiny, and the carseat rear facing took up more room than the capsule. I loved having the capsule, it was really handy to lift her in and out, and quite often I'd just pop it in the trolley if doing a little shop. I never left her to sleep for a long time in it but it was handy to finish off a nap too.

We hired a capsule but to be honest, (if there is a) next time, we'll just go straight to car seat. DD grew out of the capsule too quickly so for us it was a waste of cash!

DS we went straight to car seat with newborn insert, DD we bought a capsule. The only difference I found was as you said, being able to keep them asleep in the capsule while ducking in and out of places. But if we have a 3rd we'll be going straight to car seat with insert as we sold our capsule and I can't see a huge point buying another one.

DD1 went straight into a carseat, she was 2.1kg when we took her home and we had to take the shoulder straps off as they were too big for her

DD2 we have hired a capsule and it has been a godsend already! She has stayed asleep in it and we have been able to pop in and out of the car, and not disturb her at all, soooo worth it

If you want one of the cheapest places to hire from in Adelaide let me know

My first three children went straight into a car seat, my last baby whom is still only 6 weeks old we bought a capsule that goes straight into our strider plus pram!!! It is the best thing i have ever ever bought!!! I am in and out of the car atleast twice a day (for school runs) and it is awesome. So honestly I would highly reccomend a capsule IF you think you are going to be in and out of the car. I LOVE MY CAPSULE!!!!!!!!!!!

We went straight into a carseat for both of the kids - just seemed like a waste of money to buy one for the short term (although I could have been swayed if it was one that would attach into a pram).

I can get a kit for the capsule to go into our pram but haven't bothered as it's easier to use the trolley rather than lift out the pram. LMK I love it too!

We are using the car capsule for our bub, simply for the fact we have a strider DLX and we just thought it was simply practical for those first 6-8 months

While we were deciding though (tossing up whether to do capsule or carseat) the thing that cinched it for us was the resale value of the seats, and also, they now have carseats/booster seats which bub can go in from 6-7months old and stay in until they're 7! (which in NSW is the legal age requirement for them to stay in a booster seat) and they have all the necessary protection for the bubs, and you can take out the seatbelts etc. When they are big enough to be in the booster seat. We didn't even know they existed! What a fantastic idea in my eyes, saves having to buy a booster seat once they grew out of the carseat too!

It just all seemed so practical (and cheaper in our case!) to do it that way each to their own I spose! If we have another we may end up being like alot of mums on here and want a normal carseat lol

    Hope that gave another perspective!

DS has gone straight into a car seat. Having been a nanny for many years I would only get a capsule for number two + like pp it's easier (and safer IMO) getting older children in and out of the car too if you have bubs in one that you can just put down in a safe place also you tend to be in and out a lot more.

My friend bought the whole clip is system for her pram but her DS (born 35 weeks gestaion and weighing 2.6kg) was too big for it at 2 months. It was too awkward to carry him in it.

I decided to go straight to car seat and I think the seat is fantastic. Brought DD home from hospital at 2.4kg and not an issue
