    I fainted :(

Just wanted to know if anyone else has done this? And what the chances are that this has done some damage?

DH & I were in the shower this morning, talking crap, and had just finished brushing our teeth. Had been in there a while, and had the thermostat set to 43 (I like hot showers). Then I got dizzy, and told DH. It was getting worse, I told him I didn't feel good and things were going black. I remember I put my hands on his shoulders to balance, and I couldn't see his face properly. Next thing I know I hear him yelling at me, then I can see his face above me, I look to the right and there's the shower. I said "What? How did I get out here?"

Then he knew I was coming around so got me to the bed and covered me up. I felt fine immediately, but poor DH was so terrified. I feel so horrible about how scared he was, he was so shaky. Apparently my eyes rolled back and I was talking gibberish, then just went quiet. He was about to run out to the phone when I came to.

When I was feeling better I called the local hospital, and the nurse explained that it's actually quite common in pregnancy and that it would have been due to the shower being too hot (blood vessels dilating etc). I had heard that I shouldn't have hot showers or baths but thought it was later on so the baby doesn't overheat, not me!!

Anyway, sorry this is long, I'm just hoping someone can let me know if this really is common and if it might have done any damage to bub?

    TIA

This was me for most of my pregnancy. Where i work has no air con and so whenever i got overheated id get really lightheaded i remember one time i was serving a customer and it came on and my store manager was next to me i grabbed her arm and said im going to pass out. I don't know what happened but i just remember being in the staff room being fanned and handed a cup of water by the trainee manager.

Good thing your DP was there and no you wouldnt have done any damage. During my pregnancy i slipped over and fell hard on tiles, whacked my belly on a saucepan handle and on a pole on the bus and my bubba has turned out fine, more than fine!

Just make sure you don't over heat yourself.

Yup I had it several times during each pregnancy, just had the shower too hot.

Also had a couple of fainting spells during my first pregnancy due to low blood sugar.

Thank you so much guys I got so emotional thinking I might have done something wrong - will just have to turn down the shower and not take so long!

It's good to know it's happened to others with beautiful children at the end of it, thanks

    :hugL hun, scary isn't it.
When i was PG with DD1 i blacked out at the check-out in k-mart, the poor guy behind me had to catch me (and i'm by no means a small woman), his wife had seen me walking around and knew i was PG so they took me out the front, gave me water and looked after me.

Thanks Ang and ZF. I'm getting so relieved reading these replies, and have passed them on to DH. He's feeling a bit calmer about it now and has taken to calling me Drop Bear lol.

ZF I'm not exactly small either, and I'm still amazed he managed to get me out shower and around the corner onto the floor! That's seriously the first thing I thought as I started coming back!

Your DH sounds like he did a great job for him.

You definately aren't alone. I managed to faint in Big W at 24 weeks. I then threw up in a waste bin. I was so, so embarrassed but the ladies in the photo lab were lovely and helped me til I felt better. I hope you make it through the rest of your pregnancy with no more fainting!

Yep, I've been fainty faint faint all the way through, but especially in the first tri. It's your body's need for blood rapidly increasing and your blood pressure drops as a result. I found that drinking Powerade really helps, and, yeah, lay off the hot showers a bit! Will be easier as summer comes up

Thanks Marni & Audax. Re: vomiting, apparently as I came to I started retching. I don't remember that bit but it scared DH. He certainly did do a good job!! Apparently the dog was there too and kept nudging my face with his nose lol.

Thanks for the tip re Powerade Audax, I'll give that a go!
