How did/do you handle morning sickness at work?

Morning sickness for me has really ramped up this week. I was feeling yucky all week, but this morning was the worst - I actually vomited. At my desk. It was horrible in a funny way, I won't go into it but did have to rush back home to get changed.

Afterwards I felt 100% better, but until then I was really just quite useless!! Same thing yesterday - no good till after 10. I start at about 8:15 and can't really delay it, so I'm just wondering if there are any ways to try and keep it down? I had no way of making it to the loo and even if I did, it's right by two colleagues and they'd hear everything. I really don't want anyone at work finding out I'm pregnant until 12 weeks.

Any tips or ideas would be much appreciated

Fresh orange and lemon juice, cold as you can get it.
Do you have a juice bar nearby? I didn't even like it all that much, but it made all the difference.

Lol I was actually on my way next door to buy juice when the yucky feeling came!! Afterwards that's the last thing I wanted, but tomorrow I'll make sure I have some on hand early, thanks

And shell, good to hear the food thing works, thanks. I was thinking half the problem was because I hadn't eaten since breakfast which was a long time earlier. On my back from getting changed I popped into Foodland and got some scoth finger biscuits, they really helped for the rest of the morning

I kept a big stash of lollies at work - especially sour ones as disgusting as they are, they took away the really sick feeling. I also drank orange and lemon juice - you can buy it in the fresh juice section at the supermarket if you don't have a juice bar. I never could stop myself from vomiting unfortunately, so I had to tell some work mates earlier than I would of liked - especially after I vomited in the kitchen sink while one was eating her lunch .

I ate and ate..never had and empty stomach. I also drank lemon & ginger tea. Snakes and Sour Bears were always great at keeping the nausea at bay.

Haha JM! I did try the 'gastro' angle for a while - DS apparently passed it on alot from daycare - but then everyone got too suss. I have enjoyed being pampered by everyone though!
KT - you can also try things like sea sickness bands which you can buy from the chemist - they never worked for me but I do know people that have used them and had success.

I used to work in a nursing home and got up at 5am for work, which was just awful while I had morning sickness. I made sure I had Clix biscuits (had to be Clix, nothing else worked) by my bedside. When I woke up I would eat a few, wait maybe 15mins while they digested a bit. Only then would I get up and get moving. Couldn't eat breakfast but I took ginger beer to work and would sip on that for the first couple of hours. And because we had a kitchen I could make myself some toast with butter around 9am which would help me feel better.
I found if I skipped the biscuits I would be soooo sick! So they really worked for me.

Good luck! Hope it eases off for you asap.

Thanks heaps everyone I've got some juice for tomorrow, and the scotch finger biscuits worked really well today so I'll keep that up too. My excuse today was that I had a migraine because that's actually happened to me at work before so they readily accepted it lol. But then I realised after that I can only use that excuse once!! Hopefully it's just nausea and no vomiting from now on

I tend to vomit every day until the 4 month mark. It's terrible and you have my sympathy. The only thing which worked for me and meant that I could get out the door in the morning was a 'tac yack' as DH called it (as in tactical). I would make myself vomit when I first got up, otherwise it would happen on the train at work etc. I know it's yucky, but once I'd done it I felt I could face the day. Nothing else seemed to help for me except actually vomiting.

ETA I also always had a vomit bag on me and trust me, I needed to use it more than a few times.

Eat, eat, eat. I snacked on dried apricots about every 10mins and then ate other snacks/meals every 2ish hours.

Oh Lovely it really does suck doesnt it!!
I'm one of those strange people who when they ate, it didnt make me feel any better
What everyone has suggested so far are really good ideas. Just keep eating different foods until you work out what worked for you.

Lemonade Flavoured Iccy Poles worked sometimes for me....but most of the time I just waited for it to pass (I was lucky to never vomit, just flat out bad nausea)

    Oh you poor dear!

The only time I worked when i was pregnant in the morning sick phase was with my middle child. It was at an Early Learning Centre (kindergarten). I had to tell the other staff and director as soon as I found out I was pregnant so they could alert me whenever there was a case of dangerous illness in the centre so everyone knew and was supportive from as early as 6 weeks.

I had shocking M/S but never vomitted... as much as I wanted to. So I had nausea all day. I couldn't bring myself to make myself vomit either... I hated it so much. Eating didn't help either. But I ate before work (tomato on toast, always the same). Childcare is a really shocking job to have when you are pregnant... on your feet all day... ugh. So physically tiring... I would have loved an office job!

I didn't do it at the time because I didn't know much about it but if I had to cope with M/S at work I'd look into pressing the bodies pressure points (such as on the wrist) that ease nausea. I did this technique on my son recently while on a car trip (he had car sickness) and it worked miracles... he even fell asleep!

oh I hear you! You poor poor thing. It is nasty isn't it.

    A few tips:

Zip lock bags to vomit into, so you can seal up the smell and mess, but but it inside a brown paper bag, so you don't have to SEE the mess. I always had some in my handbag, at my desk, in the car. It got to the point where I would keep one tucked inside my bra or in a pocket.

Also, as gross as it sounds, occaisionally I did resort to the method of, um, creating the vomit in the toilet where at least I could have some privacy. Controversial, but some times you gotta do what you gotta do.

And keep trying stuff till you find what works for you food wise. OJ for me was great. As was maccas cheeseburgers. Oh and always eat slowly. A cheeseburger would take me a good 30 minutes to eat.

And prepare yourself that people at work may figure it out. We weren't telling anyone till 12 weeks, but my boss and colleague (who both have children) clicked pretty quickly. It wasn't the end of the world that they knew.

I had to eat as well- I found it really tough because it was summer when I found I was pg, so the heat made htings 10 times worse, and I am a teacher, so I had no where to go when I felt sick. I found that sipping lots of cold drinks helped, I couldnt face water so it was always juice or lemon cordial, lemonade was good was was ginger beer. Lemonade icey poles were a saviour too. I snacked constantly on crackers or salt & vinegar chips- I had a tough time explaining to a class of 9 year olds why I was allowed to eat in class but they were not.
Good luck, once you find that 'thing' that works for you, stick with it!

Thanks heaps everyone! Today was much better. I felt worse as soon as I woke up, and got it out of the way early. I reckon the "tac yack" is the way to go, hehe

And definitely need to keep a few nibbles on hand - the dry biscuits and juice were fantastic, and some lemonade in the arvo. I was so nervous today - my boss was here all morning and I can just imagine if I'd done that with him there lol.

Thanks heaps for all your tips - reckon I might go with those lemonade icy poles too.

I constantly ate carrots. I ate so many fresh carrots that I felt like a rabbit. Only thing that worked for me.
