help bub no longer wants to bf :(

hi having problems with my baby ever since she was a few weeks old she kept pulling off at the breast crying then latching on and sucking for a few mins and doing the same thing. I've tried expressing and was lucky to get 40mls after pumping for around almost 45mins-1hr

She would also scream for a few hours every night. She was diagnosed with colic i ended up giving up bf and putting her on s26 soy she doesnt scream as much now but i would dearly love to go back to bf her. i've just started taking tonight breastfeeding support tablets which has fenugreek and blessed thistle in them. do you think this would help increase my supply again or does anyone else have any other ideas? do u need to get motilium on prescription from a dr?

id love to hear from others about advice!

It is definitely possible to relactate and the best thing to do would be talk to a lactation consultant (LC). Call the ABA they will be a source of lot's of information.

I am sure Barb will pop in with some more information

If you want to relactate, you need some real-life support from a lactation consultant and/or ABA counsellor. Barb may be able to recommend one in your area. the ABA may also be able to find one for you. I think it's important you get someone to sit down with you and talk it all through and make a plan together.

The best thing for supply is to get her on teh breast as much as possible. You may also find medication is helpful to kick-start things again.
How old is your baby now and how long has it been since you last breastfed?

If the S26 is working then that may suggest that your baby has an intolerance to cows milk protein. And this may mean that you need to have a low-dairy diet so that she doesn't get too much cows milk protein through your own milk.
The first step to relactating is to get your boobs being sucked on as much as possible - see if bub will attach, and if she will then attach her often. Use yourself as her "dummy" as much as you can. And you may also need to get a pump and use it too.

my baby is 11 weeks on tuesday, i was able to breastfeed her last night but after 9am she has wanted the bottle and managed to take 180ml maybe she was starving overnight. i've tried to attach her often she keeps sucking her fingers as if she's hungry. She wont go to sleep unless she's had a bottle either...wondering if i should be giving bf up for good!

Def speak to the aba and find a lactation consultant to help you

Start off by spending a few days in bed just feeding your baby as often as you can, have a look at your diet, is there anything in there that could be causing problems? I know my bub reacts the most to lots of dairy, any chocolate, caffeine, spicy food, soft drinks etc. It might be worth having a pretty bland diet for a while to try and increase your chances of success.

Good luck, and well done on deciding to go back too it!

That's a great start. Getting baby to suck at the breast is your first hurdle. The next will be getting your supply up and cutting the bottles.
It is doable, but I stress again, you need real-life support. Give the ABA a call. They can offer you some great support and advice specific to your situation. A visit with a private LC would be gold - she can walk you through the whole thing.
Give yourself a little time and get some help before you make your final decision. It's ok to do a bit of both for now
