Weight loss post birth and breastfeeding. Is this normal??

Not sure if this is normal or not as i wasn't able to breastfeed DS1 for very long but im a bit worried that i might be losing too much weight. During my pregnancy i gained about 15 kg all up. DS2 was a big baby at 4.66 kg and my placenta was huge also so last sun i weighed myself and i had lost about 12 kg since the birth. I weighed myself again yesterday and i am now 2kg lighter than my pre preg weight and since Sunday i have lost a further 4kg. I already fit back into my pre preg jeans whereas with ds i didn't ever fit back into my pre preg jeans lol. Is this weight loss a bit excessive? I should mention that i also lost about 2 lites of blood at birth so that may have affected it also. Im a bit worried that i might not be eating enough although i am never hungry and am having healthy snacks during the day and drinking plenty of water.

Hm, could be the breastfeeding. Were you overweight before falling pregnant this time (i.e. are you still in a healthy weight range now)?

If it continues, and especially if you have any other issues, it might be worthwhile getting your thyroid levels checked out. Sometimes they can get out of whack in teh post-partum period. An overactive thyroid can result in weight loss. You'd typically feel tired, hungry and may experience heart palpatations, amongst other things.

I was in a healthy BMI when i got preg but only just. Now i am back into the healthy BMI range again.

Ill keep the thyroid issue in mind. I am tired but who isn't with a newborn and a toddler in the house and not experiencing hunger or heart palpatations. I was very amemic after birth but am feeling alot better now as im taking iron everyday.

I guess it might be normal - perhaps you were carryign a lot of fluid or something. If it continues I'd go see a doctor.

4kgs in a week sounds alot hun but the rest sounds pretty normal. With DD I put on 15kgs and with DS I put on 20 kgs. Both were big babies, 4kgs and 4.5 kgs, and I carried heaps of fluid but I lost it all both times in a fortnight. Having a c/s too I found my appetite wasn't huge, I drank heaps of water while b'fing and it just fell off. (Having said that I didn't keep it off If you keep losing weight and are finding that you aren't hungry etc I would go get some tests done. xox
