    Gallstones in Pregnancy

    HI,
As the title suggests I have 3-4 tiny gallstones. I am 25wks pg and obviously i can't have any ops or take any drugs if i can possibly manage it which so far is ok. I have had 2 bad attacks where i took panadol to get through and basically didn't eat but after this last one which was last week i still feel really gassy and horrible. I am on a very low fat diet and have cut out dairy but still feel uncomfortable. I have also been drinking a glass of water mixed with apple cider vinegar each day.

So i am wondering who else out there has had gallstones during pg and if they found anything to help the synptoms. I was concidering trying acupuncture also.
How much fats/oils did you eat when pregnant with gallstones?
Did the pain lessen after you gave birth?
If you had the op soon after birth how did this affect your breastfeeding?

    TIA

A friend of mine did. She did end up in hospital at one point after a bad attack. But I don't think she ever did have surgery - maybe it just sorted itself out...?
Sorry, I don't know anything more than that.

i had severe gallstones when my ds2 was a bub, was miss diagnosed as muscle strain untill he was 6 weeks old, only found out what it was when i was rushed into emergencey as the pain was unbareable. i had to have surgery that night and due to the morphine i could not feed bub, he was at home with df, so had to go straight to formula, i had to stay in for a week and in that time couldnt realy "controll" the pain killers they gave me, but managed ok with minimal panadine fort once back home. if you are able to express 2 weeks or so worth of milk, you should be ok, not sure how long it stays in your system. i developed bad mastitis while recovering in hospital as i have alot of trouble expressing so it just continued to build.

my sister was diagnosed with gallstones 2 weeks after giving birth. She had been vomiting for weeks, and just horribly uncomfortable at night - which had been put down to bubs position. She had them removed, and was told by the nurses that she couldn't breastfeed because of the medication. The midwife came along and said what a load of hogwash - she had been on endone and panadeine forte post c-section, so baby had already had some exposure to narcotics with no ill effects.

    Thanks ladies,
so far I have been able to control the gall stones with diet. At least i am lucky in that i am aware of the triggers and can avoid those foods so hopefully won't have to worry about surgery for some time. Touch wood. It would be nice to have some nice crispy bacon and eggs though mmmmm.

I had gallstones too. Mine was removed about 3 weeks after DS1 was born.
I can't stress more strongly that it did NOT affect breastfeeding. I had fantastic surgical team. They took immense pride in the fact that they were supporting me to continue feeding. My anaesthetist worked hard to ensure I could feed DS as soon as i woke. I didn't, because i was tired and sore - but i could have! And the pain was also managed perfectly so that I felt great and could feed my boy the whole time.

PM me if you want any more info.
