my left nipple has a crack and it is really sore when feeding.
should i express off that side for a few feeds just to give it a bit of a break and some time to heal?
bub is only 12 days old.
i found lanisoh cream was good for cracked nipples, and it is fine if bub drinks from the nipple afterwards.
You can also express abit of milk on to the nipple and leave it to dry.
i think it depends how sore it is, if you can feed from that side (paying particular attention to bub s attachment) it is probably better but if you need a break just feed from the other side for a few feeds.
Hi Sassy, make sure you're getting attachment right so you don't do more damage. Have you seen an LC or ABA counsellor for guidance?
If you need to take a break then you can do that - a nipple shield may also help. Is the other side ok?
You want to make sure attachment is corrected first.
I don't use any creams, when my nipples were cracked, expressed breast milk is the BEST for it! Antibacterial properties and ABA suggest this also express some on before AND after each feed. Give your nipple some time to air out too, walk around without a bra on for a bit....(at home hehe)
Depends how painful it is, if it's really bad, then yes I would express with a pump that fits your nipple correctly. If pumping hurts then I would say you have the wrongly sized flange for that pump for your nipple size if that makes sense. Pumping shouldn't be painful.
Good luck hun, if you get attachment right and use BM on the nipple, it should clear up quite fast!! I know how painful that is....
Give 1800 mum 2 mum a call also if you need some help.
