For the last week.. my hair has been falling out in small clumps. I dont know why. Every morning I wake up with a pile of hair on my pillow. I brush my hair, and I have to sweep up afterwoods because there's so much hair on the floor.
DD does like to pull at it and I do straighten my hair every second day, but I always have, so I dont understand why..
I also had no idea where to put this because I dont know what it is from.
..any help would be much appreciated.
Its normal to lose hair after having a baby. I found this info for you to explain it better;
Many new moms are surprised to find themselves shedding more hair than usual in the first few months after giving birth, but it's perfectly normal. And there's no need to panic: You won't go bald. In fact, your hair should be back to normal by your baby's first birthday.
Here's what's going on. Normally, about 85 to 95 percent of the hair on your head is growing and the other 5 to 15 percent is in a resting stage. After the resting period, this hair falls out — often while you're brushing or shampooing it — and is replaced by new growth. An average woman sheds about 100 hairs a day.
During pregnancy, increased levels of estrogen prolong the growing stage. There are fewer hairs in the resting stage and fewer falling out each day, so you have thicker, more luxuriant tresses.
After you give birth, your estrogen levels take a tumble and a lot more hair follicles enter the resting stage. Soon you'll have more hair coming out in the shower or on the brush. This unusual shedding will taper off and your hair will be back to its pre-pregnancy thickness about six to 12 months after you give birth.
I had something similar happen a couple of years ago when we first moved to Brisbane, in the end it turned out to be stress, every time I washed my hair there would literally be clumps of hair sitting around the drain hole, so much so that I still have no idea how I wasn't bald by the end of the month.
I switched shampoo/conditioner to something for repairing hair, I went with the kerastase resistance range but there are many cheaper options out there, I just found that one really seemed to slow down the fall out for me.
I still go through stages where it starts to fall out if I find myself overly stressed.
Has anything stressful happened recently?
Oh and I also straighten my hair regularly as well as abuse it with dye/bleach lol Hope it settles down soon!
Only just to give you the "heads up" (excuse the pun): whilst the above reasons ARE most likely what's causing your hair loss.... it could also be a thyroid problem.
If the hair loss is accompanied by significant weight loss, shakey hands, rapid heart rate then i would mention it and those symptoms to your GP. He should then request a blood test for hyper-thyroidism.
I don't want to worry you needlessly and this is also for other members reading this thread.... but I mistakenly put my post natal hair loss down to normal reasons when it actually turned out to be something more concerning. Thyroid problems are most likely to arise in women soon after having a baby.
But like said, I'm sure you're ok.... this is just a side-note.
ah, so you are the "poopie" who I confuzzled so many BB girls over with my "where is the poopie?" thread ...
as for your question (!) I started malting majorly from maybe 12-20 weeks after Joshua was born ... my hair is very long, so it looked worse than it probably was - but I shed and shed and shed (particularly if I brushed my hair after the shower, and first thing in the morning) and then it went back to normal
I hope yours settles down soon too!
But as below, if you have other symptoms, I'd be shuttling out to your GP.
