disposable nappies - where to buy (Melbourne) and what to buy

Hi

We need to make our very first nappie purchase. We are going disposable...and I'm wondering where in/around Melbourne we can find the best prices (should we join Costco? is it worth the trip even though it's not overly convenient)? is there an online discount site for name brand nappies?

And now - what to buy...without knowing how big our baby will be, how many of the newborn size should we buy (I've heard stories of people growing out of them in weeks and having many left over)...at the same time, the last thing I want to be running out to buy in early days is nappies as that is so easy to prepare for in advance.

Any advice?

I would start with one box of newborn nappies. If you are going private, you do not need to supply your own nappies. It all depends on what size your baby is when they are born. We only needed one box with DS2.
You can try Nappy Land outlets for Huggies, which I have found the best branded ones. Aldi ones are excellent and they now have a proper newborn size. When they first started with nappies, their newborn was a big weight range and I found didn't suit a real newborn. If you have any left over, you can either give them to friends who have girls with baby born dolls (cheaper than baby born nappies Lol!)
You can google nappyland, it brings up their locations.
We are Costco members. Not just for nappies, we also get wipes, tissues, toilet paper, vegemite, diced tomatoes and alot of other things.

We are going private but I haven't done any of the classes yet or had the tour so I didn't know we didn't need to supply our own, that's really helpful.

I wish Costco listed the brands they carry on their website (for all things, not just nappies) but I guess that isn't really in their interest since they don't offer online shopping.

I will check out nappyland now.

Costco stock Huggies, their own brand which is called Kirkland..I can't remember if they stock others? I think they may stock one other brand and that is it.

I find costco great for nappies and other things. They sometimes also stock pampers but generally huggies and kirkland.

Personally I didnt like kirkland nappies.

I only used newborn for a few weeks as i have 4kg+ babies and they got tight to quickly. So i would not rush and buy a big stash of newborn nappies.

One box of newborn should be fine, dd1 was in them for 12 months but that is unusual, she was a premmie! Dd2 used one box and Ds two.
