    Help!! Really bad cough!?

    Hi ladies

I have had a bad cough for 7 days now. No other cold symptoms like runny nose or anything.

The midwife told me to take panadene to help and also honey to try to sooth it. But it doesn't really help and I just cannot begin to shake it.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help?

Duro-Tuss (cough medicine) is safe to take in pregnancy. I'm not sure it helped me a whole lot, but some women apparently find it helpful. Um... lots of sips of water. Try to rest? I found if I could prop myself up on pillows so that I was almost sitting up, that helped, because lying down made it so, so much worse. Good luck. Mine lasted ages too, drove me CRAZY!

Do you have an ache in the front or back of your chest?

Coughs can be symptomatic of other things, so don't let it run too long.

Could also be hayfever, esp if you haven't any other symptoms. P has had a nasty cough since spring started by no sign of infection or etc (seen 3 drs!) and the Drs put it down to hayfever...she has Phenergen (sp) to stop it.

I used Duro-Tuss recently when I had the Swine Flu. I'm not sure it was much help but it made me feel like I was doing something. The only other thing that I found helpful was hot herbal tea. It seemed to suppress my cough a bit.

Thank u so much for ur replies ladies :-)

I went to the Doc today as this is driving me mad. The bad news is that it is either Tracheal Bronchitis or Whooping Cough :'-(
I have to go in Monday and get tested for Whooping Cough and he has given me Ventolin to help ease my cough, which seems to have helped a little. And even worse, he says the cough will last 4-6 weeks either way! :-(

Whooping cough has been rearing its ugly head a lot lately. I had it as a teenager and I'm fairly sure I had it last year too (you don't get the 'whoop' when you're an adult, apparently). Hope you feel better soon.
