Please tell me this is normal and I haven't done something wrong....

Tearing pain on my RHS of the wound, over 5 weeks post CS

This is the pain I was experiencing when still in hospital and was making it extrememly difficult to get out of bed, I slept in a recliner chair for a week when I got home because I couldn't get up from a lying flat position. My LHS feel fine, scar healing nicely although still not keen to wear jeans as they tend to pull on the area.

There is nothing visual, and it feels deeper, I am concerned I may have cause some damamge and torn one of the deeper layers, I would have thought that by now it would have improved where as over the last week it feels worse, I am taking Panadol to take away some of the pain, but it is getting me down.

I haven't had my follow up check up yet and need to call them as I haven't received the appointment yet, but I know it will be in the next couple of weeks (6-8 weeks post CS)

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it worth going to see my physio about it in the meantime?

    TIA xxoo

Hey hun I remember having some pain quite a few weeks post c/s and it was always when I had overdone it with lifting and walking. I would think you just need to be really careful over the next few days, remember your no lifting and over head stretching and see if it settles down, even by tomorrow with some decent rest. If you do need to pick up anything (or anyone!) then do it with your knees and be really careful babe. If it's still bad with a bit of rest or if it gets worse, then get it checked.

If you were thinking of calling the MW about A's reflux, perhaps give her a call and ask about this? She might be able to let you know whether it is something to worry about.

I think I know the pain you're talking about...almost like a burning sensation?

If so, you haven't done anything wrong hun; but if you're worried maybe head to your GP or OB?

Did you have dissolvable stitches? It wouldn't be the last of the stitches internally tightening before they fully dissolve? I have no idea and I only vaguely remember some pain associated with the stitches about a month afterwards.

If there is no brusing or oozing it it probably fine, but still worth getting checked out if you are worried. I hope the pain stops soon

If the pain is "getting worse" you need to get it reviewed, either by your ob/surgeon or by your GP. It could be that there is a collection of fluid behind the wound - which can be very painful (speaking from first hand experience here) - they should do an ultrasound to check what's going on in there. You may need some antiobiotics if there's some fluid lying around. It's important to be assertive, and stress the fact that the pain is *worsening* - it is not normal to suddenly be getting increased pain this long after surgery.

get an earlier appointment with your Dr hun - much better to waste an hour checking then for it to end up being serious and untreated.

for you that it's all ok though

    Thankyou so much!

I rang my MW and spoke to her about it, she said it could be a trapped nerve, or the end knot of the internal stitches dissolving and pulling a bit more at the moment, but she is talking to my OB about it for me because she (like you have said MD) that it shouldn't be getting worse and if there is anything else she can suggest she will call me back, or if she wants to see me sooner. My folllow up appointment is on the 25th, so still a couple of weeks away. She also suggested taking Neurofen or Voltaren in conjunction with the Panadol to see if they help, the Neurofen is longer lasting and the Voltaren is quicker acting but won't last as long.

Leesa ~ that is the pain, and it is more frustrating that it is there all the time now

Just Me ~ I did have dissolvable stitches, and was wondering if it was them as well, because I think my OB said they take about 6 weeks to dissolve, I did have problems after my VB that one didn't dissolve and ended up getting overgrowna nd had to be cut out, but this is internal..

Pixie ~ Thanks hun for that suggestion, exactly what I did, I posted about the reflux in the other thread

Tanstar ~ thanks hun, I will definitely be resting up more for the next few days, DD is back in daycare and I don't have much to do and got my jobs out of the way early this morning, I have work to get done, which is good because it is all on my laptop so I just get to sit and take it easy.

MD ~ thanks hun, I did reinforce that it has gotten worse over the past week, which it has, and it concerns me that it is the same pain that I was experiencing in hospital, but just not as bad as it was then.

Peanutter ~ thanks hun, I hope it is just normal as well

Thankyou everyone I just really don't know what is normal and what isn't...

    How are you now?

    Hi Beema

Can I ask how you are doing now? I've just posted a similiar query to yours in this section. Im 6 months on and have had the same type of pain, all the checks and nothing definitive. Would love to know how you are and if you have any magical tips for me!!!!

    Hi Twinkle

I am doing really well now, I had to go back on the pain relief and it took a few more weeks before it settled and was no longer causing so much pain. I found out at my appointment that my uterus tore up the LHS (the opposite side to where I was feeling the pain), so I have an L-Shaped scar, but didn't give me a reason why it was hurting so much on the other side and I forgot to ask my OB which way she stitched and whether it was where she closed it off.

One thing I found made a massive difference was shaving (or waxing if you prefer ) the hair below the scar, it was so so much better, and I found I was feeling a lot less tugging and pulling on the scar after this, so I guess that is my magical tip, and and rosehip oil on the scar it does wonders for healing

6 months is a long time to be still feeling this kind of pain, you poor thing
I hope you get some releif very soon!
