Don't want to sound ungracious... But I'm pretty sure I'm going to
Ok, so I'm behind in my studies and have a 2000 word essay due this Sat that is REALLY stressing me out and I don't know how to write it.
Yesterday my mother asked me if I wanted her to come over today and watch the kids. I thought "Sweet. She can come in the morning, I can sneak an extra couple of hours in while she plays with them, then at midday I can take missy to kinder, put master j down for his nap, and do another two hours." So of course I said yes please, 10:00 would be great.
She comes at 12, just as we were leaving for kinder and has only just left now, at 2:00 pm.
This means that not only could I not do the extra 2 hours, but because she was here during Jordy's nap time I really didn't feel like I could turn the tv off or leave the room and study elsewhere
She said that she couldn't come any earlier because she had asthma last night. That is honestly fine, it would only have been a bonus anyway. But turning up at midday... well, it doesn't help me.
grrrr. Now I know J will be up any moment, so there's not a lot of point in trying to absorb any new information. I just wish she'd called and said "I can't come today"
No need to respond, just venting
Oh I do understand that, my mum does the same. We make plans and then I think in my head that I can do this and then she stuffs the plans up without actually telling me until it's too late. I have learnt to tell her that by making these plans it means this and if she can't make to tell me ASAP to avoid it.
Goodluck in getting your essay done by the weekend.
That would stress me out too. I don't think you sound ungracious at all. It was lovely of her to offer to help you out but in the end, she didn't do what she offered and stopped you from getting anything done at all. I hope you got some good study time in tonight and your assignment comes together easily. Good luck
Aw, Thanks all
CB, dont give me too much credit, I'm only. Doing one subject per semester
It's sociology. I'm supposed illustrate how the media influences opinion and perception. The only problem is, my subject is pnd and I can't seem to find examples. It's like it's such a sensitive issue that no one really wants to put their own slant on it. I am so stuck, but I can't change topic.
Hiya. On the assignment topic, is that how media influences how society perceives pnd?
I'd bring in examples from celebrities like brooke shields on oprah. In fact, oprah is a major influencer, so i'd look closer at whatever she's had on her show about it
I'd probably start with some of the negative examples, like that poor mum in WA who killed her baby and tried to kill herself. The amount of cases of maternal infanticide has influenced how the media deals with it. Its been given more credibility over time. Women are less likely to be pillorised and more likely to be treated a bit more gently. Do they now put helpline numbers on news reports about it?
Another point to include is the rarity of male pnd, how its not portrayed and therefore not really given credibility.
Have there been any examples of pnd on popular tv shows? That can influence whether women reach out for help.
Do you need to include social media? Cos there's forums, blogs etc
Oh my goodness, Tash, you are awesome. I was feeling do overwhelmed I was struggling to even make a start. Now I feel like I at least have some direction. Thank you so much!
fully understand.. my mum is exactly the same she actually never keeps her plans even though she makes them.. so now i dont bother i just make sure i have things in order so if it doesnt happen im not p***ed off at her.. hope u get some things done that u need too xoxo
