id speak to your GP about your measles immunity, though its probably fine otherwise they should have told you![]()
On Friday I had some Mum's from MG come over with their little one's for a play and morning tea. Tonight, one of those Mum's emailed all of us to say that her son J has come down with a big rash all over his body and symptoms of measles. The Dr has told them it's highly likely that's what it is and results are back Friday with the definite answer.
I'm worried firstly because DD got very close to J on Friday when they said goodbye to each other (hug and a kiss) and secondly DD is not immunised against rubella/measles as yet....we haven't got her MMR needle yet, we are delaying it.
I am not so worried about DD getting it, although I'd prefer her not to get it of course but it is part of childhood after all.
What concerns me, is me being pregnant....I'm 15wks. I had my bloods checked for rubella immunity when I fell pg and all was fine there.....so should I worry??? Another Mum there is also pregnant in her 1st trimester.
Is it only 1st trimester is the dangerous period if I catch it??
Just need to put my mind at ease. Did some googling but found nothing reliable to read upon that I trusted. Thought I'd ask BB.
TIA.

If your blood test showed immunity then I wouldn't worry. I would watch your dd closely though for signs... She may get sick, but breastfeeding should help!
Best wishes!
Thanks girls. And if DD does get it....does that mean I definitely will? if it's in the house?? Or not necessarily??? would I have to avoid kissing her etc??
I'm ringing my midwife tomorrow.
If your dd gets it, then your immunity will still protect you. I meant only she might be cranky etc and you mght have to up the feeds to help.
Your belly babe is protected by your immunity, because you might be exposed, but your body fights off infection before it takes hold...itms?
I'm not sure of all the risks and stuff....but just wanted to let you know that when I was pregnant with my first DD I had chickenpox, and when pregnant with my 2nd DD I had measles!! Both bubs (now teenagers, lol) are fine and perfectly healthy, thank goodness![]()

Hi Shanti
No advice, just hope it all works out fine for you and DD1 (and bump, of course!).

Grrrreeeeat!! Another Mum has emailed our group saying her little girl now has come down with fevers and a rash and waiting on test results....either chicken pox or measles..... aahhhh!!
Hun, I really hope neither of you get sick. But I'm pretty sure that the potential harm only occurs in the first trimester so you should be ok now that you're 15 weeks.
Fingers crossed hun.
Thanks MR. No point worrying huh?![]()
Pregnancy is tiring enough without all this other stress! I hope all the little ones are ok and your DD builds immunity without getting sick!
Wonderful newsthey got J's test results back and it wasn't measles after all....just some nasty viral infection with fevers and a rash!! Yay!!!
yayaa!!!!!!!!
That's great news!!! What a relief.
I had a measles scare earlier in this pregnancy as well but my immunity (which has been fine for my previous pregnancies) is gone for this one. No-one told me to check between pregnancies that my reubella immunity was up to date so make sure that if you want more babies, you get tested before you get pregnant.
Having said all that, I was assured that measles and rubella are entirely different viruses and it is rubella (german measles) that is the dangerous one. Measles themselves can make you very sick and cause complications but not usually to the baby. Having immunity to reubella does not mean having immunity to measles but it is not as big a deal. It would be terrible to get them though. I don't know a whole lot about it though but I thought I would add that in just in case anyone else was looking for the same info. My thread is here: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...ed-142572.html
I am so relieved for you Shanti that it is just a virus ... though viruses are not fun either and I hope your DD doesn't catch it.

Thanks guys!!
Yeah it's been nearly 12 days since we saw the kids from mothers group so fingers crossed we don't get it....I'd like to think if DD was going to get it, by now she would have?
We're going overseas in 2.5 weeks time so definitely don't want any illness's in our family!!!!![]()
