Crunchy Cushietushie.

it could be delamination its when the PUL comes away from the material its stuck to with cushies the minky but it might not affect it just depends sometimes they can get holes in them and leak because of it cushies are very prone to this

Try contacting them. Have you put it in the drier or done anything like that?
I heard IB's had a problem with some of their nappies doing this, so it could be a manufacturing thing.

Thanks clover. Just sent an email to them. Haven't been in the drier as we don't have one. They did however go thru a hot wash but I've read the care instructions on their blog and they say when doing a strip wash to soak in hot water with washing detergent, so I can't see how that could be the problem? If it is they need to re do their destructions! XD

Bit bummed! Only started using them two weeks ago.

Did it dry in the sun very fast? Have you tried just scrunching it up with your hands to soften it back up again?

Also did you use much detergent?

It's 30 plus out so maybe? Mind you they took all day yesterday to dry still.

I actually noticed when it was dirty as I was chucking it in the wash. I've washed it again and it's hanging outside as we speak so I'll see what happens.

I use Eco Store washing powder, and only half a scoop... I haven't done the strip wash with the dish washing detergent on them yet.

We have a HUGE Cushie Tushie stash and ours went through a crunchy stage too.

A half to one cup of white vinegar in thewash with them does WONDERS.

If you want a non-natural options, use Washing Soda (in bags from Bunnings). It's used to soften hard water that can make things crunchy (we use it for our towels sometimes as we have hard water where we live).

PS - the "plasticy" bit inside is the PUL lining, perfectly normal.

But best to stick to a cold wash.

Oh, one more thing, we don't have a drier so always dry in the sun and the vinegar wash still lasts.

Angel, they sound like plastic bag. From my understanding it shouldn't sound like that or crunch at all? They're not just stiff from being out if the sun iykwim.
Will the vinegar still work for that?

nup it's delaminated if it makes that sound.

Email to them sounds like the right thing. They have pretty good customer service.

So glad to hear you are enjoying the nappies just as much as we do!
This crinkling sound is quite common in all modern cloth nappies that have a PUL layer. The PUL layer is laminated ctton, so it is possible that the lamiate and the cotton have come unglued a bit over time, but it should still work just fine. It does come and go, but it should not affect the performance of the nappy in any way. After a few washed and wears it tends to settle down. If not, put the nappy through the dryer on a low heat setting, which can help re-set the laminate. So long as the laminated layer is in tact, the crinkling will not lead to leakage. I have one crinkly nappy in my collection and it seems to work just as well as the non-crinkly ones :-)

The reply emails sounds about right... BUT how old is the nappy?
I only ever had it happen once, and that was when the nappy had reached the end of it's life.
I've never owned a CT so I guess my advice means diddley squat really lol

they're over 12 months... however, up until 2 weeks ago they had spent that 12 months sitting in the back of DS cupboard because he was too lanky for them til now.
I have 10 of them, and other than my stash of terry's that's all i have ATM so they have gotten a hammering... I'll just keep using them and see how they go I guess.

Hmm... if the nappy is still performing okay I'd leave them be.
But if you want to be sure try the dryer on the lowest setting.

And keep in contact with CT to let them know how their suggestions went for you.
