    pre-folds cotton vs bamboo

    Hi there,

Another question from me. I have just bought maybe a dozen cotton pre-folds. Now I'm wondering if I should add some bamboo to the collection.

Do you have experience in using cotton and bamboo and are there marked differences with absorbency?

    Thanks for your help

Bamboo is more absorbent by far. The trade off is drying time is longer though! What you could do is get some bamboo boosters so you can boost your cotton ones. Good thing is that you will get loads of use from bamboo and probably right up until TTing (which is my experience x2).

Thanks Raven, good idea. Are the bamboo boosters almost as effective as a bamboo prefold?

Hi Lisa - I found that bamboo took way too long to dry, but I guess was was using them in winter before I gave up. I use microfibre and find them fantastic!

I haven't got any cotton ones, but I love bamboo. I would boost them with a bamboo booster. The boosters I have are alot thicker & thirstier than my prefolds.
I'm now really only using my prefolds as boosters/inserts. I don't find drying time all that bad really. I have flats as back up though, & have a good sized stash, so when we have rain & it takes days to dry I still have back up

mmm...good food for though ladies. I think maybe I'll try a combo of bamboo and microfibre boosters inside my cotton prefolds and see what works best. We don't have a dryer and live in Melbourne so will need to think about drying over Winter. Gosh it's hard enough right now in Summer...lol

Just be careful of microfibre..some babies can react badly to it (like mine) even though there are layers between it and their bottoms.

Perhaps consider getting more boosters so you have a larger rotation of them so that while some are drying you can use the others KWIM
