I'm looking at getting some wool nappy covers to go over Ds Terry flats when we are at home. Twinkle lily ones to be exact. But I'm curious as to how they work? Do I need to wash them in lanolin all the time? And it says they only need airing unless soiled. Is soiled on mean wee as well or just poosplosions?
You only need to air them between use unless they get poo on them, then they need a wash obviously. You can use them several times before having to wash & relanolise. You can tell by the smell when they need redoing - usually they stink when you take them off but just smell like wool again after airing, but once they need a wash the smell doesn't go away.
So when you do wash them you need to do it in lanolin? So probably no machine washing then eh? Do they take forever to dry?
And they're waterproof, yes?
No, not waterproof. They breathe and evaporate the moisture, so better than waterproof - except if they're sitting for long periods of time as these kinds of nappies are prone to pressure leaks.
They dry pretty quickly as they're not absorbent.
You wash them, then lanolise. You need to redo it when you wash as you'd be stripping out the lanolin during washing. machine washing is ok for some covers, it depends. I have DIY ones that woudl probably fall apart in the machine, for eg, but some woven ones you can buy would be fine in the machine. Hand washing is easy anyway.
Wicked. They sound like just the thing I'm looking for.
I'm just after something to put over Ds Terry flats so when he does a wee that i dont catch in time I don't get little damp patches on my carpet XD he's only ever in them at home, and for maybe 2 hours max at a time.
Just wanting to hear from others who use wool covers
For
Night time what brands they use. DS is a heavy wetter and ATM is in spossies overnight but still wetting through those (three different brands) so I figure I may as well use cloth at night too.
I used the BBH wool covers and hand knitted longies for bed times. You will feel a bit of dampness because the wool allows the wetness to be evaporated off. It's kind of weird in a way that the pj's might feel damp but then when you take them off, the cover will feel cold but it is dry.
Also if you can get some of the sheepish grins products spray lanolin and lanilin wool wash it will make life so much easier
