Lower back pain is keeping me up from sleep

    Hi all,

was looking around to see any threads on post partum lower back pain as I am now up at 1 in the morning because the pain is unbereable. here doesn't seem to be any such thread so maybe it has nothing to do with the birth? I think I started feeling the pain after I had my baby 7 weeks ago. I used to just ignore it and go on with daily life but now it's getting very very painful. Should I see a chiropractor or a physiotherapsit?

i wear my baby too but I know many ladies on BB wear their babies but obviously it doesnt give them back pain?

I had this when I was wearing my sling incorrectly adjusted. If you haven't tried it maybe relook at how it's worn on you. I also found light pilates strengthened my core muscles and helped with my posture. It's nice to stretch your back too and won't screw with milk supply.

Just wondering where exactly the pain is? Do you get shooting pain at all, any other pains at all?

I suffered with lower back pain for months and months and finally 6 months after birth I couldn't deal any more and went and saw a physio. 2 months of weekly sessions and I haven't been back and haven't had any back pain either. It was just a matter of adjusting the way I did things (posture mainly) and also for my body to rid of the hormone relaxin. I was diagnosed with sacriotic joint dysfunction.

It might be worth seeing a physio (most hospitals offer them post birth for a period of time) but first I'd look at things like posture and the way you are wearing bub. Try and equal out the weight if you can.

    Hope that helps x

*ETA* Oh and keep doing your pelvic floor exercises, they should help with some lower back pain!

I suffered from horrendous back pain during and after pregnancy. It gave me grief on a regular basis until I stopped breastfeeding - sorry, I'm just bring honest!!

I still see a physio who specialises in pregnancy and post-preggy issues (I do pilates with them weekly). They've been amazing! I had a dodgy back before I fell pregnant so it was no surprise it played up during pregnancy however, I didn't think I'd continue to experience pain well into my first year as a mum! My physio thinks the hormones were still harassing me during breastfeeding which could well have been the problem as it was amazing how much better my back felt once I stopped BF DD (I wouldn't have stopped BF to test that theory though). I still get a few odd niggles in my lower back but they go as quickly as they came

Pelvic floor exercises do really help as they strengthen your core muscles, the source of lower back pain.

    HTH!

PS I wore DD in a sling a lot when she was little but it was my lower back that was the issue most of the time so in my case, I don't think it was really related.
