Question Pregnancy pillows? What do they do?

Hi all can you tell me about pregnancy pillows?
Did you use one? What exactly are they for? And what one/type did you find works for you?

My SIL has offered me hers but I want to get the right one. I have really bad back pain normally and its just starting to play up again now at night!!

    hey!

My body pillow is amazing!!!! I use it so i can sleep on my side comfortably.. My back hurts waaay too much from sleeping on my side unless i have my pillow to lean on.
What I do is lay on my side with my leg over the pillow and it helps keep my hips squared and stops my spine from twisting,

I got mine from Pillow Talk and it has a foam core (highly recommend!!!) the stops it from going lumpy and gross, I had a k-mart one before that went lumpy in a week so was CRAP!

HIGHLY recommend them if you have a sore back!!! Soooo much more comfy to sleep!

I slept with 5 regular pillows and a rolled up towel. Three under my head, one between my legs and one behind my back so I didn't roll onto it. The towel went under my belly. Worked for me, and now I have plenty of pillows for guests DH called it my pillow palace. I liked it because I could change it according to my needs for that day.

I had so many pillows DH eventually moved into the spare room Poor man only had an inch to sleep on. That, and the constant waking and adorable pregnant wife snoring.

I ended up with a big wedge pillow to prop me up to help with heartburn and a normal pillow on top of this. I had a little belly wedge pillow for under the bump. I'd move it as I switched from side to side. I had a long pillow for between my knees and ankles (I had to keep my knees together due to SPD and it would hurt without one). Then another one behind my back to stop my rolling over when i was on my side. I had a belly bean and this was OK in the start but not so much at the end. Sadly there was no cure for the hip pain except swapping sides or sleeping on my back.

I would position all my pillows, then crawl in and adjust them. Sleep on one side. Get up to loo. Readjust all the pillows and sleep on the other side. Repeat multiple times all night.

DH did get to use the wedge pillow when he got the flu and couldn't breathe properly, so it wasn't all for me

I used a single rolled up doona and unrolled if i needed less, rolled more if i needed more. I didn't have back pain but I had pain when I woke up from my pelvis twisting from laying on my side. The doona was long enough to put under my belly when it got bigger and between my legs.

I still use my body pillow 20 months on!!!! I love it because I like to sleep on my side with one knee leaning over and it would kill my back, so now I can do that because I'm using the pillow and not putting pressure on my back. While pregnant it was awesome, because I could sleep like this, and still shove a bit under my belly....ultimate comfort!

I LOVED my pregnancy pillow! DF even offered to get it out again for me the other night when i was complaining of having a sore back. I had a giant U shaped one which curved in around my belly and hugged my back. It started at my shins, went up around my head and down my back to the back of my shins. It was perfect!! DF bought it as my christmas present at toys r us, for around $90 i think. Once i was done with it DD slept in it in her bed and called it her boat

I say take it, if you use it for a bit and find you don't like it you can always return it! I think people tend to do what ever works. First time round DF and i were sharing a King single (he is 6'6"!) and all i got was tiny wedge pillow for under my belly and i was still happy.

I just ordered a big, eff-off pillow online. Cuddle-Up I think it's called. I toss and turn and sleep in EVERY position, probably change every 15 mins, so this one is perfect for me because it goes on both sides of the body, so the back, tummy and legs are all supported. Can't wait to get it, my back has been killing me too!! It can also be used as a BFing pillow too.

I had a curved pregnancy pilow that doubed as a BF pillow once DD arrived. I too suffered from bad back pain from about 15 weeks and then the pelvic/groin pain kicked in as well from 20ish weeks. I couldn't have slept at all without my pillow. I positioned it so my bump was sitting up and on it and the curved bit went between my legs. It helped so much!

Oh how I miss my pregnancy pillow. It got culled when we moved across the country. It was great with my last pg, if someone is going to give you one, take it! If you dont like it you can at least give it back.

I've got one from Lincraft and the pillow cases are on special from time to time ($9.95). All up it was less than $30 with the pillow and pillow case.

Most nights it's at the end of the bed, it comes in handy when my back is sore.

I got the snoogle pregnancy pillow from Toys r us and it's the best thing ever! I have the long vertical bit behind my back so there's something to lean on when I sleep on my side and the curved bit goes in between my legs so my hips stay square. It's also easy to turn from side to side within the pillow itself and still get good support.

    Hi there,

I got the back and belly pillow from Toys r us. It has been a lifesaver and the only time I wake up now is to go to the toilet, not because I am uncomfortable. Expensive but worth it. It looks like a U shape. Good luck!

I loved my pillow. Also used it for breastfeeding in the early days and for bub to sleep on. I can't remember the brand of pillow but it was a boomerang shape with an extra little bit in the angle. She would sleep kinda coccooned with her head in the middle bit
