through an ultrasound 6 weeks i saw and heard the heartbeat. Through a doppler at GP its unusual to hear through one before 12 weeks usually hope this helps
It depends on a few things... placenta position, the person using the doppler and baby position.
At 16 weeks with DS1 they were unable to find a heartbeat through the doppler.
At 16 weeks with DS2 they were able to find the heartbeat through a doppler.
I've always been told not to expect to hear a heartbeat through the doppler much before 18-20 weeks. If you can it's just a bonus, if you can't it's probably due to reasons beyond control.
When I was pregnant with DS I was told that it is generally around 16wks when the heartbeat can first be heard on the doppler, we didn't hear him until 18wks though.
In saying that though, some bub's can be heard earlier, and others won't be heard until later, and as Early Kids stated, it depends on the position of the placenta as well.
With this pregnancy I got to hear her right on 15 & 1/2 weeks, and I was shocked that it was picked up so early.
And ultrasounds can pick up a heart beat as soon as it is visible on the screen - I remember hearing my first Angel's heartbeat at 6wks 4d as I was lucky enough to have a sonographer who put it on speaker for me.
