Did you have a Strech & Sweep... and did it work?

    Hello,

Just curious to find out from those who had S&S done if it worked for you. I had one done today, but am still only 38 + 2. I'm 2cm dilated and "soft".

I realise it's not guaranteed to get anything happening and I'm probably still going to be hanging around in 2 weeks waiting, but I guess i'm just after a little glimmer of hope that they can work

So did your S&S work for you, and what dates were you when you had it done?

    Thanks!

I was 3 days off from being due, had awful pre-labour pains. Had a S&S, wasn't even dilated, but was ripe and bub engaged. Went in labour that night and 3 hours later bub was born

I was 4 days over, DD1 was born bout 36hrs afterwards. I started getting pains pretty much straight after and they just kept going.

    I had two - one at 40 +3 and one at 40 + 8.

Neither worked, but it was worth a shot. I'd do it again without a doubt.

    I had a S&S with my first 2 pregnancies.

DS 1 - I was 39 + 4 was also ripe and about 2 cm's had it done at 12pm and waters started leaking and minor labour pains about 4 pm that afternoon.

DS 2 - I was 39+6 had it done on my Dr's appt on the Monday, had a few stronger BH rest of Monday and Tuesday was a rip roarer of a electrical storm all Tuesday afternoon, sure enough woke up around 4am with contractions.

Good Luck, hope it works for you

I was supposed to have a stretch and sweep today too, unfortunately I was bumped because someone who was supposed to be induced last week and didnt want to be, decided that she would be this morning. So I never got one Hope you have success with yours and you'll be holding your bub before you know it.

Thanks for all your replies.. it's good to hear others experiences with the S&S.

I guess I just have to wait and see!

I had 3. First at 41 weeks, then 42 weeks then 42+2 - still was induced at 42+3 but I think it helped loose my plug at 42+2....

I didn't know they would do it so early!
I want one now but don't think my MW would do it, even though I am 39 weeks tomorrow. Maybe I should ask if I am "ripe and ready" enough!

I was surprised they said they would do it... they told me they don't usually do it until EDD has been and gone.

DH works away from home and flies in tomorrow for 6 days only, unless the baby arrives in which case he can start his paternity leave. Otherwise he flies back out and will probably miss the birth. I think she understood how important it was to us that he be here so wants to help kick things off whilst he's home. She did say however that if my cervix was still firm and closed she wouldn't do it, there would be no point... and even now there's no guarantees it will do anything at all. Now I just have all my fingers and toes crossed it does something, anything.

Yes at 37 weeks with dd2, but I was already in labour and 3cm dilated, after being in the early stages of labour for two weeks, it hurt like hell and I still needed my waters broken.

black rose - I was expecting it to hurt like hell... I haven't had any internals with this pg but was in tears for the 3 internals I had at the end of my pg with DD, they hurt so much! I found it uncomfortable and it made me tense up a little but it didn't actually "hurt" at all which I was grateful for. I could feel her doing it but it was just uncomfortable. She said she could feel the baby's head, so weird to think that she touched his head!

I have never had them hurt before either but I was in tears, I think I tensed up while it was happening and I just wanted dd out. The internals with ds didn't hurt anywhere near as much but I didn't need a s&s.

Well, it must have been unsuccessful... it's been more than 48hrs and all it did was help me lose some plug and ramp up my BH... still painless but more intense.

Stubborn little guy can wait until after today now
