Does anyone know if olives are okay to eat?

Craving a nice Greek salad with black olives but are they ok to eat during pregnancy? What about fetter cheese?

Fetta cheese I would say no, as I think it is classed as a soft cheese, but I think the olives would be ok.

I'd stay away from the olives and feta from the deli section. I avoided feta altogether but ate olives from the jars.

Yeah fetta is a no no, but I can't see why olives would be a problem.

    :yeahthat:

I also ate feta from sealed packets plus cooked feta.

A friend's OB said to her he had 6 pg women killed in car crashes over the years and no incidents of listeria so advised that she 'drive safely to the deli'! In the end it's what you are comfortable eating.

Feta is fine, as are olives.

Apparently listeria can only live for a certain amount of time, so if you're to have fetta, you're best off having it from a sealed pack with a long expiration date. Olives in the jar are fine

I heard some feta does not get pasteurised so check on the packet.. Otherwise it's fine.

Ha, love it! I think that could be said for a lot of things. The business of being pregnant has a huge list of no's which are very minor worries compared to other things to worry about.

All milk products in Australia must be pasteurised by law (local and imported). ALL feta, local or imported into Australia is subject to these laws.

The ONLY exceptions to this regulation have occurred after special applications to FSANZ, and ONLY applies to 3 Swiss cheeses, and the French Roquefort cheese, all of which are produced overseas, not locally.

Yep. You can eat most cheeses, that info is totally outdated and not relevant to australian laws. I can't even imagine what is wrong with olives
