Just a quick one girls. I need some advice. Katherine was really unsettled last night, she usually does her cluster feeding thing from 8ish till 11ish at night then usually she settled pretty well and gets up for a feed about 1 and another one about 5.
Last night though she didn't settle at all, and after her cluster feeding time she stayed up but got more and more distressed. She was straining her little body, arching her back and pumping her legs. she still wanted lots of food but I was reluctant to give it to her as she looked like she had a bad tummy ache and I didn't want to make it worse. I did end up giving her more as it was the only thing that would settle her for a while. Eventually, about half 4, she did a big poo and started to settle- I got her down for half 5 and she stayed in bed until 7 when she had a normal feed and went straight to bed again. This is the second time since we've brought her home that we've had an all nighter like this.
So- I've looked up the symptoms and I'm wondering if she has colic? What do you think?? She has always been a windy baby. The doctor thought she had reflux last week when we saw him and asked him about it and she's been taking a little zantac syrup morning and night since then but obviously it didn't settle her last night. So anyone got any suggestions or advice? Does this sound like colic to you?
Sounds like normal baby variations. You have good nights and bad, that's all.
Using the breast to settle your baby is often the best thing to do - very effective.
How are you doing today?
DD was like that but her's was reflux related. As soon as she was on medication (Losec) she settled from night one. However she did have unsettled nights post medication but all bubs do. Maybe because your DD had a tummy pain she couldn't focus on pooing? I found if DD was having a night like that, a slightly warmer then average bath would relax her tummy muscles and helf her fluff or poo. Once she got stressed it delayed the process because everything was tensed IYKWIM but the warm bath relaxed her enough to focus on the task at hand. I used to also put a drop of lavendar oil in the bath but swished in 50mlish of hot water first to disperse it.
HTH and hopefully you are getting some much needed sleep!
