    Breastfeeding with Breast Implants..???

    Hi ladies

im just wondering if there is anyone on the forum that has had implants and has successfully breastfed. (or knows someone that has)

it just dawned on me that i may have trouble breastfeeding. of course, i asked surgeon at the time, and he said there should be no problem. but im still worried.

iv been so caught up in making sure i know as much about breastfeeding as possible. i would be so upset if i couldnt even produce milk!!!

There is no reason you shouldn't be able tto. The implant is placed behind the milk ducts.. I hope there is someone who can give you a positive story from experience

I've read that if they are inserted through the armpit it should be fine. If they did the old style of through the nipple then might be issues with scar tissue. I'll see if I can find the page I read and PM addy to you.

I just realised you haven't reached 10 posts so I can't PM you yet. Did you want me to email it? It's a small article but is very informative and frank

no im very new to forum. found it way too late. iv been cramming like a school kid cos iv only got a few weeks til bub is due lol.

i have crease incision (underneath breast). im guessing nipple incision would be the highest risk factor of damage to milk glands etc.

i dont have long to wait anyway, fingers crossed it all goes well. i have a friend who has implants that unsuccessfully breastfed. she stopped after 6 weeks thinking that she wasnt producing enough milk and was having to feed way too often. but things may have improved if she kept at it as it may have had nothing to do with implants...kwim?

    Hi and welcome
It's quite common to feel like that in the first couple of months even without implants. Bubs will feed so frequently in part because its tummy is so tiny, and it's also natures way of increasing your supply.
You'll find lots of info here and lots of support

The crease incision under the breast won't affect it. No damage to milk ducts. The implant is inserted under the tissue so it'll be great. My milk was slow to start then floooded in but I don't have implants. Babies need to build up the supply

    Hello

I got implants 5 months ago with full knowledge of breastfeeding etc. My surgeon said that there should nor be am issue breastfeeding with implants especially if the are placed behind the muscle etc there could be other reasons why feeding can't occur and not necessarily due to the implants.

HTH and good luck! I'm more worried about getting massively huge that I can't find a nursing bra!!

I think the hot milk range goes up to a G cup. I saw a thread on larger maternity bras a while back so maybe you might be able to find that or someone can pont you in the right direction

I forgot about Hot Milk! Must check it out...

Mummajj - did you switch to wirefree bra as soon as you found out you were pregnant? I'm just wondering if the boobs would need to be treated the same as normal boobs but thought wire bras would still be ok because the implant is under or lifted the milk ducts etc up and out of the way, if you know what I mean.. lol

    Hi
as others have mentioned you should have no problems breastfeeding. In breastfeeding, more than anything knowledge is power. The main reason women give up breastfeeding is 'perc ieved low supply, which is entirely different to actual low supply. Many women feel as yourfriend did even under normal circumstances. My other bit of advice is to join the Australian breastfeeding Association . It 's your best insurance policy against poor advice and bad information.
The other good thing is that your breasts are changing and growing - getting ready to make milk
