    Low Progesterone

    Hi everyone,

Well I'm finally pregnant 4 years since starting my donor search. Took 2 years to find a donor I was comfortable with then 1 year of AI and then had to change to IVF and clinic donor in Feb this year. Finally got my good news last week but my progesterone levels are low.

    Last weeks results:
    Progesterone - 56
    HCG - 192

I was then put on progesterone pressaries twice a day and progesterone injections once a day. Was initially told I will need to be on them for 10 weeks (at a cost of $210 a week) but yesterday I was told I will only need to be on them until 10 weeks of pregnancy - so only another 5 weeks now... thank god as I was worried where I was going to get the rest of the money since I already borrowed so much for 4 IVF attempts.

    Anyway my results yesterday were:
    Progesterone - 92
HCG - over 3,400 (can't remember the last two digits).

Does anyone know what the progesterone should be? Is it meant to increase like HCG? My IVF clinic aren't great at answering questions (always make you feel stupid for asking).

Egg pickup (ovulation) was the 6th Dec. So yesterday I was 23 days post ovulation.

    Thanks
    Lori

    Hi dreamrise

Firstly huge congrats on your pregnancy, such great news for you
Ok, I dont know a great deal about the progesterone level but I can tell you the part that I DO know.....At roughly the same stage of pregnancy my progesterone levels were very similar to yours and that resulted in our DD. So my guess is that your levels are looking pretty ok P4 doesnt increase dramatically like the HCG does and it can fluctuate up and down quite happily without causing too much concern, at least thats what my clinic believe (mine was 86 at 3 weeks 4 days, fell to 43 at 7weeks and rose back up to 77 at 8 weeks). I know I had a panic attack when they started to drop but the clinic said that everything was fine and it wasnt going to be an issue, so perhaps because the HCG was still happily shooting up ?? Im not certain but I think at about that stage the placenta takes over the production/ sustaining of the P4 and not the corpus luteum, this I vaguely recall something like that anyway but perhaps someone else can clear that part up!
I hope this has helped, if even just a little but hopefully someone else has a better way of wording things iykwim
    Wishing you a H&H 9 months x
