Exclamation Very Swollen Gum with 1yr molar...

    Hi All,

DS2 has been getting his molars for weeks now.
They have been a drama but we have been managing as needed with Panadol, Nurophen, SM33, teething rings, ice... whatever works well at the time!

Three of his four 1yr molars have come in but the last one (bottom right) is causing all sorts of problems.

Just before Christmas I thought it was finally going to poke through the skin but not only has nothing come through the skin but the gum is really swollen and a dark purple colour.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

He lets me touch it and massage it so I don't think it is infected but I am worried.

its normal but not that common! i cant for the life of me remember what the purple lump is called though... it will come to me.
it will be fine and will go away when the tooth comes through, just keep up the pain relief

    ETA its an eruption cyst..
    heres some infor for you

it is due to the gums becoming thin in front of the erupting tooth and some minor trauma causing a bruise in that area. Often it doesn't take much of a trauma to do this, just normal eating or biting on a toy. It does not hurt. Just like a bruise, it will tend to go away on it's own once the new tooth erupts

Have you got any icypoles or similar that he could suck on to help with the swelling? It's nasty when that happens to them and you wish you could just do something to get the tooth through quicker.
