Did your first baby look like their father?

    Why I ask..

MIL made a weird comment. "I hope she has DP's olive skin (Im very white), first babies always look like the father"

I dont know if she was saying in a nice way Im ugly or shes right? lol

My MIL thought and still does think DD looks more like me (not sure if she is hinting that there might be a milkman lol) and my side of the family thinks she looks more like my DH's side.

i think there is some primal reason for babies looking much like their fathers in the first few weeks.

Everyone said DD looked exactly like the Bear. I think only one person ever said she looks like me and they had never met the Bear. Baby photos of her and the Bear are disturbingly similar.

    Gotta love those MIL comments!

When DD was born she looked alot like me but by the time she was 1 she was a mini-DP. She is pretty much a girl version of him now

I was a premmie so had that sort of odd premmie face and head shape...so no one looks like I did as a baby!

There is no mistaking that DD looks like I do now - even strangers comment on it - as Tattoo Mama put it "It looks like you had sex with yourself!" :-D

I am planning to soon return to my natural hair colour - which is identical to DD's (but she is already darker then I was at her age), so that willl make it worse!

The only way DD resembles DH is the way she shoves food into her face lol.

DS looked exactly like his daddy. I keep looking at photos of him and can't see anything of me in him. I know he's mine though - we've the birth photos to prove it

I've heard that babies look like their Dad so they bond with them more. Kind of a nature survival thing.

DS looked more like DH. DD looked like neither of us. If we had been separated at her birth, I would've been demanding DNA tests! lol

All my kids looked like their father at birth. Actually all 3 of them looked identical to each other at birth, I have a hard time trying to figure out which one is which in some photos.

Here's a link to an article in the New York Times about some studies into just this question:

My first born looks nothing like his father, he has always looked like a short haired version of me, however DD1 is identical to him.

DS2 who is to my DH (our first born together) looks loads like his Daddy and a little like me.

Nope. DD1 was a dead ringer for me at birth and now at 3 years old, you can hold a picture of me at that age next to a photo of her and the only way to tell the difference is I had an 80's mullet :/ DH even got concerned when DD1 was a newborn because she had almond-shaped eyes (my little brother has them, I did as a little kid but they've opened up a bit as I've grown up) and he thought maybe the milkman was of Asian descent lol!!
Then DD2 was born and right from the minute she popped out facing the ceiling, she's been DH all over - all she's missing is the doodle! Before she even opened her eyes and started to cry, she looked just like a tiny, almost-bald DH covered in grease lol :/ Once we wiped her down and discovered the strawberry blonde curls, we knew we'd got one of each - a mini-me and a mini-DH. At 18 months she's DH in every single way, from the cheekiness to the facial expressions to the position in which she sleeps at night. So cute!

It is common for babies, whether first or fifth, to resemble their father in the early weeks/months of their lives, but it's not always a guarantee and it certainly doesn't mean anything - DNA is a complicated thing on its own, let alone when it mixes with someone else's to create an entirely new human being! It does seem to be common for both sides of the family to want to 'lay claim' to a new baby by having it resemble family members though so I hope your MIL's remarks are coming from a desire to bond with the new baby as well as she can

Depends what angle. Across the nose and cheeks is spitting image of me as a baby/toddler and sideon. If you look at her square on she looks like DP but you can still see a blend of both of us. DP says that she got all of our best features and I agree with him. My nose, eye shape and cheeks. DPs lips, eye creases and chin.

DD looks a lot like DP. But i don't think that theory is all that true. My older sister looks nothing like my dad but i look a lot like him.
