BFing necklace a godsend for my poor BB :)

Thanks to Lenny for giving me a wonderful BFing necklace which is now brilliant at distracting DD. It is saving my BB from any more bruising (they are green and yellow all over). My DD has an awesomely strong grip/pinch ouch!

Where do you get them from? I have a couple of little moles that DS picks at, ouch! When he's not whacking my BBs or holding my nose and sticking his fingers up my nostrils I'd like to give one a go!

i found a combo of breastfeeding necklace and breastfeeding tops, that have double front layer, open from below, and there is just a CIRCLE HOLE where your nipple is, so you wear your mat. bra underneath. when you bf, literally only your nipple is exposed and baby's lips is over your nipple - so far less exposed skin for baby to pinch. Your tummy is covered too, which i felt much better about feeding in public. before i found that type of bf-ing tops, the only ones i had/had seen were the ones that opened FROM THE TOP and they exposed me heaps. to pinching and to public view. (i was not the kind of person who flashed my stomach in public BEFORE having a bub, let alone AFTER having a bub.)

Oh few! I am so glad i am not the only one with beaten up BB's!! My left boob is covered in red marks where DS has actually broken the skin! And i have a very pinched mole above my right one! Thankfully my nostril's are intact still

This doesn't seem to happen to any of my other friends, and they decided that it must be something to do with my supply and DS was trying to slow it down/make it go faster! Will have to try a necklace to distract him! I have resorted to bandaids in the past, he has some favourite spots, one of which got infected from his scratching and needed AB's, DD did the exact same thing too!

Sounds like a good idea, I might try it too. DD pulls my hair the entire time she is feeding. Driving me crazy!

Thats a great idea Gigi, thanks. I tend to whip my BB out over the top of my top which gives DD free access to most of my BBs. I don't like lifting my top as it then covers DD face which she doesn't like.

Hopefully Lenny will come in here and tell us where to get the necklace. It is multi coloured one with big and smaller round striped beads and she can suck chew on it too.

Appletree I hadn't thought it may be a supply issue. I tend to always start on the left hand side which is the most bruised and she gets very frustrated waiting for the let down. My supply seems better (faster and more full) on the right these days (used to be better on the left) so perhaps I'll start her that side from now on. I have to keep DD's nails trimmed almost daily as it can draw blood and hurts a lot LOL.

Dusty, i just sent all my bf-ing tops (the ones still in good condition) to another bb member who has just had a bubba, otherwise i would offer you some. the brands i found most user friendly (opening from underneath) that i can remember, include Nuovo Maternity and Almost Mum. get on their newsletter list and you'll get to hear when they have their sales. (for NM). Almost Mum were so reasonable, i dind't need to wait for sales.

Thanks for the heads up dusty and I am so pleased that the necklace is working for you too.

I bought my BF necklace because my DS2 was a bit of a struggle to feed and whenever things would just start going well, he'd get distracted by his big brother! So the necklace was a way of keeping his attention, and it worked well when we were out and about so that i wasn't spending too much time sat with my breast out while DS2 looked around at the people going past!

I purchased it (and a few more as gifts when i decided I loved it) from a lady in the uk who used to sell them on ebay, but alas she no longer does. She does still make them and sell them from her own website though, and I see she has extended her range too (13 designs now!) I am happy to PM you the name of her company, but I'm not sure if she still sends worldwide, and I bought via ebay so i had paypal protection etc.

I have had many comments at ABA meeting from new members too and our group leader has always commented that it's such a good thing and a shame the ABA doesn't sell similar ones

they're a necklace with a difference.

the beads need to be too big for a child to swallow (for safety)
beads made of something that child can bite without breaking it or anything coming off to harm baby/toddler
the "thread" needs to be of a material that a child can't break, chew thru etc
there are no metal fastenings (often it's a leather thread knotted)
it's a distraction, more like a toy, to give the child a focal point, soemthing to grab at, play with, whilst feeding

normal jewerelly - easy for child to break, yank, - small bits/beads that could be choking hazard - tiny opening and closing bits (another choking hazard)

you can get breastfeeding necklaces and bracelets (that i have seen)

they sounded redundant to me - UNTIL i found out what they actually are, AND my child starting pinching me. THEN i got one and found out how excellent they are.
