Lost a member of our extended family today.

DH just had a phone call from his best mate in Melbourne.
Charlotte's godfather, Paul, is on his way home to NZ today to console his beautiful daughter after her baby was born still yesterday.

DH and Paul have been friends all for 30 years, and we have watched his kids all grow up. He was Best Man at our wedding. He is Charlotte's godfather and like a brother to DH and myself. He put me up and carried me through the death of my mum and looked after us, opened his home to us. He is family, and so are his kids.
She is so so young, only a 10 days shy of her 20th birthday.

I have no details yet, but I am so sad for them both. She has lived in NZ with her mum for years and I know Paul will be beating himself up that he wasn't with her, and this was his first grandchild. And he will feel this almost as deeply as she will, he is like that - his kids are his world.

I feel a bit odd though, I haven't seen her since she went back to NZ 10 years ago, she was just a child then, it is hard to think she was even pregnant in the first place let alone going through this now.

Anyway, if you have a spare minute, please send some love across to K in NZ, I know she will need it.
