Question about surgical removal of placenta after a miscarriage

Yesterday we discovered that our 15 week old baby had stopped growing and that there was no heartbeat. I was induced last night and had to go into theatre under a GA to have the placenta removed as it didn't separate from the wall of the uterus. My DH overheard my obs telling the midwife that it was very stuck, before telling him the same thing in less severe language but it was a good thing I had the operation and that everything was fine.

My question is, after the procedure I noticed that I had what looks like a needle mark on my tummy about two inches below my belly button that I'm sure wasn't there beforehand. I asked my obs if I had had a needle there and he said no, but it really feels as if it was a needle, it feels bruised around where the mark is, a very similar feeling as to what I had experienced with an amnio in a previous pregnancy.

I guess what I'm asking is would there be any reason for an injection to be given there under these circumstances and why may my obs be denying it if it had happened.

We are very fond of our obs who we have had for our four pregnancies, however, just want to make sure he isn't covering anything up for professional reasons and I also want to know for my sake, that if there was a reason for it I'd like to know why.

Not sure if anyone will be able to answer but thought I'd put it out there in the hopes someone with a little more experience may have an idea.

I had a manual removal of my placenta but it was after birth not misscarriage so im sorry if im posting whrn i shouldnt be .
I did not have GA i had a spinal needle , so i was awake, they didnt put any needle anywhere near my belly button, i had needles in my hand etc and they removed the placenta but no needles anywhere else on me
It proberly doesnt help ,but i hope you find your answers you need xx

When I misscarried at 13wks I needed a D & C and definately had no needle in the belly area, maybe you could get your medical records from the hospital to find out exactly what was done. Hun, I still can't believe this has happened to you, life is just so unfair sometimes. Hugs again to you and take care.

Thank you for the replies. I think I'll go see my gp who is very good and see if she knows why they may have done something. I thought of ringing the delivery suite and asking as I'm pretty sure my records will be there still. I did ask the midwife as she looked at it and said hmmm sometimes they do a intra uterine injection and said I'll go find out and she never came back with the info, or may have forgot about it.

During my D&C I never had any needles other than where the IV was.

I am sorry about your loss of your darling baby. Its quite possible that they may have needed to give you an injection into the uterus muscle if you were haemorraging during theatre but there would be know reason your Ob would not tell you this. Its a fairly standard drug. Its extremely common to need the placenta or part of it removed during the second trimester as they just don't budge. Thinking of you
