Ok, I need some sneaky tricks to defeat Finn the wonder-blonde and his dislike of licking pastes off his fur (worming, anti-furball stuff etc). We've resorted to back of the neck absorbed applications for worming, but seriously, he refuses to lick stuff off his fur.
I put some furball mixture on him the other night, first on his paw - got wiped off on the curtain. Next on his back/side - he let it go dry then pulled out the affected fur with his teeth. I stick it in his food - he eats around the stuff then looks at me with an expression of "eww, not on your life honey", even with stuff he really likes. If I mix it in he refuses the lot and has been known to go days without touching his food.
Short of holding him and forcing the stuff down his throat, I'm running out of ideas and need to get the stuff down him as he's a medium to long haired indoor cat and has been having trouble with hairballs lately no matter how much I brush him.
Though someone who has long haired cats *did* suggest shaving him the other day....
Lol, my cat is the same.. I with held food the other night cos I am sick of spending money on 'Prescription diet' Just to have him leave it and keep meowing for food!! (he still had dried food, he didn't starve!) I reckon, just get tabs and give them to him.. Otherwise, for furballs, there is special furball formula food?? My cat can't have it cos the diet he is on for his urinary tract, but that is the way I would go.. Good luck My cat, meowed to your cat that we are NOT allowed to shave them, as tempting as it may be lol
If he refuses to groom it off, you will need to put it down his throat. Sorry.
Put him on your lap, facing out, arm around him and open his jaw from the side of his mouth, using your finger and thumb one on each side, in the join so he can't close it. Use a syringe and put it quite far back in his mouth, under or to the side of his tongue behind the joint of his jaw. (Stick your finger in your mouth and find the spot I am talking about - where you can feel the end of your gums, the soft bit right behind it)
Empty the syringe, keep holding him and close his mouth, hold it shut for a second and stroke his throat gently downwards over where his adams apple would be.
The whole process should take about 10 seconds, he won't be thrilled, but it doesn't hurt and he will be fine. Give him a treat and a cuddle, and you are done.
GL! This is the only way we can get ours to take anything lol
The only other thing we did try was putting it on her feet, on the tufts in between the pads. She did lick it off, but only after walking it all over the house.
Ha, he's not long-haired enough to really need it, as entertaining as it'd be to give him a buzz cut. Have heard that people with persians, birmans etc actually do it in summer to keep them cooler as much as anything.
Finn turned his nose up at even steamed chicken and rice (which he LOVES) because I mixed stuff into it.
I just wiped a dob of it on his face - he's looking at me with a completely insulted expression - but is licking it off!
