I'm going in for my endoscopy on Monday but based on my extremely high blood test results the dr says he's 99% + sure it will come back positive for coeliacs disease, so... ladies, tell me about how you survive gluten free!
Any subsititutions you use?
Best gluten free products? Especially the yummy stuff!
Any other tips for a really undomesticated person who HATES to cook - so i'm very unlikely to do any baking etc...
My aunt is a silly yak as we call her lol....anyway she is the best cook and always has amazing things to eat! but if your not a cook maybe join the coeliac society The Coeliac Society of Australia Also she has the most yummiest bread that she makes I will find out the name and let you know....you wouldnt even know it is GF. also just make sure you take it very seriously like no cheating as it can lead to big health problems!
Good luck again xx
Thanks everyone. I know there is a good range of gf stuff for at home and substitutes I think I'm just worried about eating out and the lack of variety.
Hun. I'm Coeliac and have been diagnosed for about 3 years. I'm on my phone at the moment but will post more info later.
It is a big adjustment at first but you do get use to it.
A close friend is a Coeliac and when out she tends to buy Rice paper rolls from noodle bars, nandos she can have the chicken and corn with no basting, chips if she makes sure they dont salt them (as there salt apparantly has something in it) Umm maccas chips and can also get burgers without the bun!! She has found in the last 2 years since she was diagnosed that many places now have gluten free options eg kebab places have the flat bread, sandwich bars, burgers egde etc.
She reads all packets in the shops and knows of a few places that have more gluten free stuff, she bakes a lot herself with rice flour etc.
My mum is coeliac.
Dr shar is the best breads and things she has found. Health food store have them.
Orgran is a good brand.
Here's a good tip, find your biggest areas Coles, they have apt more things than small ones. And search all the stores you go to
The leda choc rum balls
Amazing
And gelativo gelati in the freezer in woolworhts and Coles. Gluten free and sooooo good
Just. Read everything as you'll ne'er know why you can find.
For snacks theres these fruit nuggets in the meusli bar section. They're good.
Thanks LisaBear, Audax, Feeb, Boomba, Bluesky and emc2 , I appreciate your ideas and advice.
I had my endoscopy today which confirmed the diagnosis (visually) and just needs final biopsy results to make it official.
Once it's official I can join the Coeliac society but I'm still struggling with what I can and can't have and which products are good alternatives. I have bought a few gluten free things that were just awful snack type things to take to work etc so I guess I'll have to keep searching. I'm just not a cook or baker so I'm finding that difficult to come to terms with that the little free time I have will have to be spent cooking
Anyhoo, keep the good ideas and suggestions coming.
