    Cat lost his voice

Has anyone had this problem before?

My male cat, Frank, didn't come in last night until after we went to bed. In the morning I noticed his usual meowing was scratchy and hoarse and I could barely hear it, its still like that now. He seems well otherwise, still eating etc.

God knows what he got up to last nght! he is meant to come in for curfew at 6 but obviously wanted to stay out partying instead.

Just wondered if anyone knows the cause?

    thanks!

Are you in a tick prevalent area? Sometimes one of the signs that a dog/cat has a tick is a change to their 'voice'. Also maybe snakebite or spider bite. Cats can sometimes take a long time to show signs of illness so it might be a good idea to have a good look over him and see if you notice any changes. Hope your boy is O.K.

    thanks aussiegirl!
I googled and apparently I'm not in a tick area, but I'll ring the vet in the morning and see what they say

Just checking in to see how Frank is doing? Did he get his voice back?

thanks girls I'm sure he will survive!

I rang the vets yesterday, the nurse had NFI, never heard of it before so I said I'd come in next week if it isn't better.

Its actually completely gone now, not even scratchy, he just opens his mouth and silence comes out, me and DH were at him this morning, how mean are we!!

Not relevant, but my old family cat used to not have a voice at all - always just that open mouth with nothing coming out!!

Sometimes I joke about getting my cats voicebox removed.. He would look cute with his jaw shaking as he meows but not hearing the annoying whinge lol..

How is your cat though? I wonder what causes it.. I would be worried..

Well I went away for a few days and mum was looking after them, when I got back, he had his voice back!!

So all is well, which is good, still don't know why it happened though?!?! he is a weirdo!
