    Spinning Babies

i was looking at the Spinning Babies photos on FB and they had a photo with pg women on their hands and knees and a support person holding this big wide bit of material that went under their tummy kinda like a sling for the tummy. Just wondering if you know what this is for? Is it to help turn bub or a labour thing?

From memory, I think it's to help bub turn. It may be to do with if bub is posterior. I haven't looked at the site in ages.

My Doula used a big strip of material whilst I was in labour. Bugger, I can't remember what it's called, but it's a practice to help baby turn and/or move down. For me it was used with me lying on top of it, with either my Doula or DH standing over me holding both sides of the material, and moving the material side to side underneath me, like a pulley. Hope that makes sense. It basically rotated my hips from side to side to help bub move down. At the time I was complaining of back pain so it might have been to move him out of posterior position too.

ETA: I was lying on my back, not on my belly.

ETA: It's called REBOZO! I found this: Rebozo

Yep, the Rebozo. We did it every night for two weeks before birth, maybe more, I don't know, and then my student midwife also did it briefly during my labour. A bit before I told everyone to bugger off and not touch me .

I didn't use one, but wasprepared to use one if needed - I ended up just listening to my body and not my head - that's what the spinning babies site really is about for me, finding a position during labour that helps. I did do a couple of short inversions after bub engaged as he was back-facing and it did help, but he kept turning back!
