Jungle party ideas for a fifth birthday

DD has decided on a jungle party theme for her fifth birthday party next month.

I wondered if anyone had any themed games, decorations, food, or cake ideas? She's a girly girl but has decided that she wants green and orange colours.

So far all I've got is hanging crepe paper streamers as vines on the play equipment.

The party will be outside with undercover for food (plenty of room inside if it rains). There will be about 30 kids invited.

    TIA!

Does she have a favorite jungle animal?

Think monkeys, snakes, bright colored birds.

If fruit wasn't so expensive you could do tropical fruit sticks, maybe you could do lettuce cups (like eating in the jungle), buy some snakes and other 'jungle' lollies and let them decorate their own cupcakes?

You could do pass the vine leaf (green crepe paper for pass the parcel), pin the tail on the monkey.

    Green & orange jelly

I've got a kids party book that does themes, there's no jungle but there is zoo and bush so I'll take some pics and upload them tomorrow if you like?

Thanks girls! TMS, that would be great! Thank you.

DD doesn't like jelly (go figure!) but pin the tail on the monkey would be a good one. Lolly snakes are a good idea, I'm pretty sure there are other jungle type animal lollies. Will do fruit kebabs. I could even use green and orange sprinkles for fairy bread.

If you need clearer or bigger pics of something in particular just let me know and I'll take them.

    Hope they help!

Pin the tail on the monkey like suggested, or pin the tail on the giraffe, or tongue on the snake.

If you are hanging crepe paper you could get some coloured cardboard from the shop and trace/cut out some different animals and hang them from above (amongst the crepe paper even) or stick them to the walls etc..

Keep the orange and green theme going with paper/palstic plates, cutlery, cups etc. even balloons, and if you can find some balloons that have pictures of animals on them, you could buy a few and put 1 of each together as decorations, so 1 orange, 1 green and 1 with animals on it.

Get plastic cups, cut out mini animals and when the kids arrive they can pick what animal they want, and then you can write their name on it and stick it to the cup. Or, if you can find some cheapie animal stickers, stick them on some plastic cups for decoration (we did this once with those coloured stars and white plastic cups, kids loved them)

Maybe some paper plates and some crepe paper cut in to strips, a bit of string/elastic/ sticky tape (and pre-cut eye holes) and the kids can make their own lion mask.

Bummer about DD not liking jelly, you could have done the chocolate frog in the pond or stuck some jelly snakes coming out of the jelly.

Print some animal pictures off the net for the kids to colour in.

If the party has to move inside, maybe have a dvd or two, like the lion king, jungle book? ice age.. Some big sheets they can hide under and it can be a "jungle tent"

Get some left over toilet rolls/paper towel rolls and let the kids decorate them with colours, crepe paper, coloured paper, stickers etc, get some masking tape and stick them together, add some string so they can hang it around their neck, and they can have their own binoculars for looking for animals?

Get the kids to guess what the animal noise is, then whoever guesses correctly, can then get up in front of the group for their turn at making an animal noise for everyone to guess.

Have you had a look for any animal/jungle theme party invites? If you can't find themed goodie bags you could get some plain brown paper bags and decorate with stickers, stamps, some of those eyes you stick on and they jiggle around etc.

Thanks girls - these are great! Special thanks to TMS for the photos.

So I think we'll go with:

    - Come dressed as a jungle animal or an explorer.
    - I love the idea of a tent - we'll set one up in the front yard (a la safari style).
    - Cut out animals hanging amongst the crepe (DD has already started drawing some and I think this is a nice touch).
    - The jungle fever cake is perfect - it's exactly what DD asked for!! (is there any way I could pass on my email address and you could scan this one in and send it to me? Pretty please?)
    - Animal print napkins, etc, are probably available from the Top Dollar store that has a stack of party things.
    - Party bags with a picture/sticker (+ the cups, I like that one), we did this last year for the butterfly party, so that's a good one.
    - Jungle themed face painting (the kits are cheap and I generally just leave them for a parent volunteer to do the kids).
    - Animal masks are a good idea. I might leave some around the table for the kids to use if they wish. DD will happily paint paper plates and they only need to be cut with some eyes glued on to give kids the idea. Could even leave the glueing on for the kids.

Any other games ideas girls? I'm thinking a treasure hunt, only called 'Going on safari', where they have to find things hidden in our (very aptly jungle-like) front garden. I'm not sure there'll be enough volunteers to get up in front of anyone for the animal noises, Nic. Most of the kids only met at school in the last couple of weeks. Although we could alter 'Musical statues' to be making animal sounds and moving like an animal until the music stops.

I must go through my music files to pull out any slightly jungle-related.

Get bird netting stuff from a hardware store, hang it across the ceiling and hang leaves/vine from it. Looks really great.

    Maybe magnetic fishing for piranhas?
They could craft jungle flower or bead necklaces.
    Or craft jungle animal masks.
Or make huts out of ...something.
Or make grass skirts from streamers or brown paper.
A hunt always takes a bit of time...maybe a safari where they have to get a photo of hidden stuffed animals?

What a fantastic party - can I come?

Games..........what about a version of egg and spoon races, just put an animal sticker on the eggs? Or musical chairs but have the kids act like animals as they are dancing around the chairs? The music could prompt them to act like animals - like play some birds tweeting and they "fly like a bird" around the chairs etc?
