    sooo sick of this!

So I work for a major supermarket in the deli and I have to work EVERY single weekend!! This is not what I signed up for I was under the impression that I would be doing some shifts during the week and every second weekend, but I only get rostered on fri, sat, sun I am only casual so I guess they can roster me on when ever they want to. But its really starting to get me down. Weekends were the only time dh and I could spend together as a familly with ds, but now that is non existent Especially since I start at 12 and finish at 10pm every time.
Someone just left for another store, and there were more hours to give out for mid week shifts, but I didn't even get a look in with any of those hours, they just gave them all to one person.

Also, it is against store policy to make someone work every weekend. I have told my boss I cant work every weekend and she just told me to keep reminding her as she would forget

ahhhh sorry no need to reply, just needed to vent, before I have to go get ready for work on this lovely saturday

I know in WA that if a casual works the same shifts constantly for a number of weeks (unsure of the number) they automatically become part time and not casual anymore. This means you are then entitled to sick and annual leave etc. Maybe check if this is the case in your state and if so, remind your manager of this and say you want to book some annual leave. Might make her put you back to casual shifts.

question, how long have you been there?

I worked for two years in the Deli and i found i got slapped with alot of weekends at the start (maybe 6 months) as they where the 'busy times' i got trained to be quick ect. after that my hours got spread over the week days. but most of my shifts where weekends i worked friday (day) saterday (day) and sunday (early morning) plus a wednesday (night) and at times monday (night) too. maybe talk to some one if they offer you contract hours to have at least one day off over the weekend working in the deli is the worst for weekends off

DO they have a casual availability sheet that you could submit to them?? Or a HR manager?? I would go and see the hr person or even store manager hun and let them know that while you are committed to the company you also want them to be committed to you, and to keep you you can't work every weekend as it is impacting on your personal life. If its against store policy hun get the union involved if they won't listen.

thanks for your replies ladies. I have filled out my availability sheet when I first started, but apparantly weekends is all the hours I can get I spoke to the 2IC yesterday while at work and she said to go directly to the store manager and find out if there is anything that can be done, which is what I might do. Its just a shame that I have to take it that far iykwim.

I have put in for a weekend off in march and all hell has broke loose now because they can't find anyone to fill in for me and the deli manager will have to do it, the poor thing (*read, who gives a cr*p). She actually said to me "oh I guess i will have to come in and do it, even though its not my weekend to work". I just felt like saying to her, well be in my shoes who has to work EVERY single weekend!! grrrr that made me so angry.

I really love working there, the ppl are great and I have made some good friends, but the hours suck!
