A has decided that he wants long hair. I don't have issue and embrace this as his little bit of individuality, though I am suspect he is growing it to be like another boy he is friends with rather than to be different IYKWIM. But it is different from his brothers who like their hair short and dad is bald. Every other male in the family has short hair too.
I am concerned with nits and he has said he doesn't want to tie it back when it gets long enough to. We have had nits a couple of times and he won't sit still for the comb so I told him that if he gets them then the hair comes off
He doesn't want the fringe swept to the side because it looks like Justin Beiber (rofl) and it is now constantly in his eyes. His hair is so thick and dead straight (this morning I spent 10 mins drying it with the hair dryer after his shower) and it doesn't naturally part so it falls forward into his eyes.
I do prefer him with a short back and sides but am indulging him for now and will see how the long the long hair thing lasts for.

I cut the fringe for my long haired boy to keep it out of his eyes - cut into it not across it so that it's jagged and it doesn't matter if it's not very straight.
I use a leave in conditioner because it is a lot easier than rinsing twice
I could have written this exact post a couple of months ago. DS15 went through a phase last year with the long hair, continually flicking his head to get his fringe out of his eye, you could only see one eye . It got to the stage at school he was asked to tie his hair back, well it was straight to the hairdressers after school that day, one thing he wouldn't do was have a pony tail.
lol Dianne DH said to him the other day that he can't wait till his hair is long enough to put in piggy tails. It was a fun stirring though he wasn't teasing.
Onyx do you trim it at the back often? A's hair is at that stage where it looks like he needs a haircut and is just covering his ears so I don't know what we're going to do back there yet.
I don't have a long haired boy yet... But you might find when it gets a little longer it will be forced to part... It probably has never had to before.

Get some natural nit repellent spray with lavender and tea-tree oil in it - tell him if he wants long hair he needs to use this every day! It will make brushing easier too as it helps detangle.
Lol my boys are 3 and nearly 2 and both have never had hair cuts. Long hair can be hard to care for but if your boy is making this decision himself just point out to him that he needs to care for it. Maybe a special shopping trip to let him pick out a comb/brush and some 2 in 1 Shampoo/Conditioner so he can get excited about caring for his own hair.
My nephew was 11 when he grew his hair, he had dreds by 13. We taught hims how to keep them clean and neat and gave him a dred band to keep then neater for things like school photos etc. He had them till 15 then shaved his head only to begin again 3 months later
