Hi,
I gave birth to my gorgeous 10lb7oz girl 12 days ago and am still bleeding quite heavily. I had alot of stitches due to a third degree tear and the midwife said that my placenta was the size of a cows! They told me that it would take awhile for my placenta hole to heal but i'm still having bright clot like blood. So i'm wondering if this is normal 12 days post birth or if i should mention it to my doctor? I remember i only bleed for about 5-6 days last time and no where near as heavy after a day or two.
i went to my dr today for similar issues my bleeding had slowed but then i started having bright red blood again with clots. she put me on antis, took a swab and im off for an ultrasound tomorrow. I had a second degree tear this time and an episiotmy (Sp) last time and in that respect i have healed much quicker this time. but im sure i didn't bleed as heavy for this long last time. I definately mention it to your dr just to be on the safe side. Dr also told me to try and get a bit more rest so hopefully you can try this too. take care xxx
Are you passing clots? How big are they?
I did bleed for a few weeks TBH, but can't remember how long the heavy bleeding lasted for.
To be safe I'd go visit your GP and have a talk about it. All the best.
Thanks for your replies.
I ended up talking to my doctor as i passed 2 big clots and he said that it's not normal but not rare when you have a big baby. He said seeing as i don't feel as though i have no energy and i didn't have fever or chills to wait and see what happens over the next week. If i develop a fever i'm to call the ambulance and if i feel anaemic to go back. I also think i was doing to much to soon and have taken it easy and the bleeding has settled down heaps.
glad to hear all ok Crystal, things have settled down for me thanks. I had a golf ball sized clot on Thursday which scared the crap out of me but the bleeding has since settle down. the swab came back normal and am still waitng for u/s results. Given they have taken so long i assume it is all okay. The things having babies do to our bodies hey? Luckily they are more than worth
