    Cool Achieving a healthy pregnancy

    Hello!!

Last pregnancy I gained a massive 20kg and looking back at photos I cannot believe how big I looked Some could have been from swelling and fluid retention but I know that I did not eat as healthy as I should have in the first half so I piled on the kg's real quickly!

This time round, I don't want to go down the same path, I want to be able to look at my photos and think YES I looked amazing! Not shudder because I looked fat. I know that gaining weight is unavoidable, but I want to keep it within the healthy range for my current weight and height, which is 11-15kg.

I've been working closely with my Personal Trainer for a year now and am going to continue with him during this pregnancy and I am going to push past those days where I do not want to go to the gym because of whatever reason. Lucky for me, so far my prgnancy has been amazing - no sickness and loads of energy so I hope it stays like this!! I am not even 6 weeks so I know it can change, but I still want to be able to stay on the track of achieving this healthy pgncy.

So, who has managed to keep the weight an a minimum the second time round? Was it easier because you learnt from your 'mistakes' the first time round? Is there any one else out there that want to achieve a healthy pregnancy with me??

Hey hun, I gained a massive 22kg.....maybe even more. I did have massive amounts of fluid retention though, and when i fell pg i only weighed 38ish kg. I got past 60kg last time. This pg i have already out on 7-8kg....so i think i'm going to put on massive amounts of weight again! Good luck keeping the weight off!

I'm a first timer but I'm so there for the healthy pregnancy thing!

I gain weight really really easily (for no apparent reason, doctors have been looking for years!), and am already nearly 20kgs over my healthy weight for my height! I was about 73kg when I fell pg, and now I'm just over 68kg. But being 5'2, my ideal healthy weight is around 50-55kgs. I've actually managed to lose weight since being pg, which I'm told while expecting twins is just phenomenal! But OB is putting it down to excessive nausea putting me off my food. I'm hoping that the babies are using my extra fat stores up now while I'm having difficulty eating and so by the time they start to really get a grow on, the part of my weight thats just me will be a bit more manageable! Sigh, its probably wishful thinking though!

I can't afford a gym membership or a PT but I do have my Wii fit!

Yas - fluid retention is no fun hey!! Do you think that you will retain fluid again this pregnancy because you did the first time?? I think the only way to minimise fluid retention is by walking and being active..

StrawberryFields - congrats on the twins!! I think that if you are concerned about your weight gain now, you will be able to control it more when the twins are growing. And its great that you are thinking about it now. with my first I only really became concerned about half way through and by then, I had already blown out.

All the best for you rest of your pregnancies

    H Ngala,
I was just like you gaining 20 kgs with my first pregnancy. I overate, I did feel hungry but chose the wrong foods. I usually would not touch McDonalds but I did eat that when I was pregnant and very large lunches. I was also quite anxious as I had a few bleeds and I think I turned to food. I'm trying this time not to gain that much weight either so hopefully we'll do it. I'm just going to walk 30 mins a day and watch what I'm eating. I'm very tired already so the thought of a personal trainer seems too much for me. I've also been recommended moderate exercise, no running etc as my ob doesn't think it is good for pregnancy. Best of luck!
