    *TMI* for my dog..

Have noticed the last couple of days that my dog has been licking around his testes (yep..DF refuses to have him desexed ) to the point there's a round patch a bit smaller than a 5c piece that has become really irritated, it's not red or inflamed, but must be annoying him for him to keep licking it. Basically, without trying to be too disgusting! His skin is black, but this little patch has gone white, like he's almost licked off the top layers of black skin (if that is even possible?!?).
Any ideas? Don't particularly want to take him back to the patronising idiot vet we got last time (only one vet clinic in town) if I really don't have to.. just a bit worried he's going to end up putting a big hole in the skin and then we'll have real problems..I do have some neocorte cream and thought about putting some on, but I dunno if that area would be too sensitive for it?

The licking would probably be a result of something irritating the area and the continued licking has and will continue to make it worse. I dunno if it has something to do with the fact that he is whole our Newfoundland was kept whole and never had that problem.

I don't know if a bucket on his head would discourage it but even IF your vet was an idiot and very pro desexing this sounds like something that really needs to be looked into for the dogs physical and mental health ... it doesn't take much for these things to become a habit for the dog and a psychological problem can be MUCH harder to fix.

    Best of luck hun.

desex desex desex, remind DH that its not HIS balls being cut off & if he really is that attached to his dogs testicles he has a problem LOL. If he loves his dog then he will need to do it. By not desxing him he is increasing his chances of dying younger then he would due to cancer.

Now on to your lick issue...Is the area raised? is it possible he has a grass seed or something there that has caused a sore? If the area has gone white it may have something in it?
If the area isn't raised or there is no sign of an infection of sorts I would try the neocorte, it should be fine on the area. Put it on & try & keep him distracted for at least 5 to 10 minutes so he doesn't just lick it off. Take him for a walk or feed him or something but watch him.

But yeah if it gets no better you will have to take him in.
What happen with the vet? Is it a 1 vet practice? maybe you could go on a day when there is another vet on if there is more then 1 at the practice?
