Do you have guinea pigs?
We have 5 - 4 girls and 1 boy who was meant to be a girl but we discovered nearly 2 weeks after we got them that she was really a he....
Yes. I love our piggies. Recently my daughter deliberately put her guinea pig in with our boy (without me knowing) and we have just had babies. We now have 8 babies (from 2 piggies) as well as 4 adults.
I deliberately put one of my females in with the male (their a pedigree pair of crested cream self's) very pretty! So I was excited about having babies from them. Unknowing to me my daughter who is almost 11 must have put her pig in with the boy (she plays in their cage all the time so I think everytime she went up to play with them she must have let her girl in just for a little bit then take her out again)
Anyway my daughter had been telling me her pig was pregnant (she is longhaired so it was hard to tell) and I suspected what she did but was still surprised when I found her 3 babies just born a fortnight ago. 2days later my girl had 5babies which is our biggest litter and I must say I was disappointed as I like to keep them and now with 8 new babies we can't keep them all.
Carla (mine) was obviously pregnant from about 5weeks onwards but she did have 5 in her. DD's I didn't see any signs until maybe 3days before they were born. You can feel the babies moving inside at about 7weeks pregnant and depending on the amount in there they look definately pregnant (although once we had a girl we brought and she didn't show any signs and only had one baby) They are usually pregnant for about 10weeks give or take a little. Larger litters usually arrive sooner then the 10weeks. Their pelvis also seperates a few days before birth so once you know what your feeling you can tell their getting close.
I had a very large bird avery. You can walk in, sit down on a chair etc. Inside I have another smaller cage for our boy its a 2 story ebay special thats roomy enough for one piggy. My sister has the same cage and has 3 boys in hers comfortably. As we don't want babies all the time we keep the boy seperated from the girls. Where I live there isn't a big market for guinea pigs so I try not to have many babies incase I can't keep them all. I wont have any trouble finding homes for my pedigree piggies but I plan on keeping them all except one. Our cage is large enough for around 15 and we keep it full with hay for them and pick fresh grass for them and then give them vegies, fruit and their mix. The kids adore them.
Last litter Carla had was almost a year ago and she had 2 babies. Sadly one died (which is why we re-bred her) and we still have her daughter flower, now her new 5 babies (4girls and a boy) DD's piggie and her 3 babies (2boys 1girl) and our boy. DD has a friend who is having 2 boys so I will need to find a home for the last little boy to ensure we can keep them from breeding too much and not been inbred also.
They provide my girls alot of entertainment. They love them to pieces and I love them to.
