    body back to normal.....

just wondering how long it will take for my body to go back to 'normal' after all this? It's been 2 weeks today since J's birth, and im getting there slowly. my bleeding is pretty light, which is good, but my boobs are still leaking, sometimes they leak heaps. a few nights i have woken up with my top wet from the milk, even though i've had pads on. they're not engorged or sore or anything, but just wondering when the milk will stop? im going to see the GP tomorrow afternoon and possibly go back on the pill, will that help my body to go back to normal? and just wondering how long it took others to feel 'normal' again? thanks.

Everyone's different so I can't say what it will be like for, but this is what it was like for me.

The day Isabel was born I was actually given medication to stop the production of milk and though I leaked a little in the following days it was nothing like what you're talking about. I'm surprised they didn't give you something similar, but I guess if you want you could talk to your gp about it (not sure if there are any time limits on when you have to take that though).

I bleed for 7 wks and got AF back on the 8th week. I was physically able to and did go back to work 4 wks after she was born. I can't really remember how long it took for my skwishy tummy to firm up but it wasn't long, though working might have helped with that (checkout chick so lots of turning, stretching, lifting, etc).

I was pregnant again 3 mths after Isabel was born, so I was physically back to normal by then (little low on iron). I think the thing that atkes the longest is the emotional side of it and that can affect you physically, I remember I had not energy and was very tired for a long time after.

Hope you start feeling normal again soon, even if it's just physically for now.

really?? im suprised i wasn't offered anything like that either, if there is something like that i could have taken. it's been so hard, and especially since my milk came in the night before J's funeral, that was really emotional, that medication would have just made it all easier....

mummydreamer they definately should have given you a pill to stop your milk!!! Your poor thing

It does take some time, i found too once my body started feeling "normal" again, it helped with my frame of mind. Little things like the bleeding was like a constant reminder every time i went to the loo. Mot that we need reminding, but you know, in your face kinda thing. Once i stopped having the physical reminders, it helped me emotionally.

I think i bled for about 6 weeks on and off and then AF returned not long after that. I physically could have gone back to work earlier than i did, but mentally i took longer. I was able to get sickness benifits (for depression) as i had a full time job to return too. I took about four motnhs off before i was ready to go back. (i had a customer service type job and i just wasnt up for smiling or being friendly to everyone :-( )

    Big to you xxoo

oh hun, that is bad on the hospitals part, if its any consellation though, i took the pill to stop my milk coming in and it still did. i didnt get the engorgement but i was having let down pains for about 2 weeks and if theres any pressure is put onto my boobs now i still leak like i'm breast feeding. keep an eye on them to make sure u dont get mastitis.
My bleeding stopped 4 weeks to the day, AF hasnt returned but i'll let u know when it does. hopefully sooner rather than later, i tend to get AF back early anyway, DD2 was exclusively breastfed and it still returned at 12 weeks, so we'll see.
My belly is still squishy as, not expecting that to change anytime soon though.
Big hugs hun,if you're like me, the bleeding is a constant reminder and u just want it to stop so u can get on with other things

actually the bleeding is okay, it doesn't bother me as much as the milk does.....the bleeding i can kind of put aside as maybe AF or something, but when i have a let down, thats when it hits me that he's not there for me and my body..... that's when i know im really really missing something. i keep explaining to DH, it's like i'm literally missing a leg or something, it's this serious longing my body has, it's just so hard to handle sometimes.... i can't believe the hospital didnt even talk to me about something for my milk!! that sucks, it's been so hard, they could have offered or something?

Oh sweetie, first of all I am so sorry that your little Josiah has grown his angel wings. Big hugs hun . Even at 21 weeks when I had Josh I was given the pill to stop the milk coming in, and fortunately it never did come. I think the hossy should have def. given you the tablet. It must be so hard to be reminded every time the milk leaks that your little boy should be here. I'm so sorry hun .

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I asked for the pill to stop the milk. I dont remember them offering. I still had leaking on and off for months, but my body seems to like being pregnant. There's an article on lactation after loss in this section.

I had lochia for about 20 days. AF returned after 12 weeks and cycles went back to normal. I had bad SPD whilst pregnant and though that got better, it hasnt gone away, so exercise has been restricted. I then put on more weight comfort eating.

Coming to terms with not being pregnant any more but not having a baby is so hard. I had phantom kicks for weeks too. They really did my head in.

Maybe a naturopath could help with suppressing the milk or maybe you gp could prescribe it. Big hugs. Be gentle with yourself.
