Which EBM machine is the best

I have been told that I will need to start expressing my BM soon in case Frogglette has to go into NICU. I haven't had to do this before so what machine would you all recommend as the better one??? Thanks

Do you mean expressing before bub is here? If you have to express colustrum, this is generally done by hand and the colustrum collected in a syringe.

Yeah they want me to start expressing at about 36 weeks. I know I will get colostrum but they want to get milk as well. I have to freeze it so that it is on hand to use jic. I have GD and am using insulin so Frogglette may have low BSL's when she is born and have to spend time in the NICU. The expressed BM will be given to her to regulate her sugars. This is only if I can't be there for any reason (ie c/s)

Unless you are still breatsfeeding another child, you will not produce milk until the baby is born and the milk producing hormones kick in...you will only get colostrum in the pre birth exoressing.....if you want to source expressed breast milk you will need to find a milk donor...there is a facebook page human milk for human babies that has an australian chapter and links people up......

I have a medela swing and love it! It's pricey but gentle and good quality.

i had GD and was on insulin when i was pg. my son was in scbu but for different reasons, but to be honest i cant see why you would need to start now. i had a c section and could still make it down stairs to the scbu for feeds. i was up walking the next day (made myself do this so i wasnt limited to just my room). DS was on a glucose drip for 24 hours after birth anyway. its better for baby if you start bf as soon as possible once they are born. the more contact onto the breast the better it is for you and baby.

I hired a medela symphony double pump and loved it...I didn't have a lot of milk and it was the only pump that got anything out.
But I agree with the others that you will only get colostrum until your milk comes in after bub is born....hand expressing is just as efficient for colostrum as the pump.
I have had friends that have done the same and the colostrum has been enough for bub for the first few days as it is so rich.
You may only get 1-.5ml each express but that is good.
Good luck...I hope bub can avoid the NICU.

I rented a Medela Symphony from the ABA for 8 weeks - it was fantastic but as it's hospital/commercial grade it would have been over $1000 to buy. I ended up buying a Medela Pump In Style which I think is almost as good as the Symphony. It's also a double pump - i also purchased a hands free pump bra on Amazon dot com and it's fantastic - do the double pump while playing on the computer. I hated sitting there doing nothing but holding up the cone/bottle contraption. I was told that you can also make a decent pump bra by cutting holes in a good fitting sturdy sports bra.
Oh - and re: the colostrum - the midwives at Frances Perry did a great job of hand expressing and using the syringe to suck it up - I found it really hard to do myself (the one time I did I did something wrong and lost what I had - I cried!)
